Should I get white or dark walnut cabinetry with my oak? see pics
Comments (23)I don't think it would look weird to paint your kitchen trim white and have the rest of the main floor keep its oak trim... that was my instinct at the top of the thread and then the photo posted by marybeth1 confirmed it. When we moved into our previous 1926 house, the woodwork was all old varnished fir. Everyone was like, oh, I love that trim! But: it was not an architect-designed house (I think it was a Sears kit house, actually) and I didn't love calling attention to the doors and windows, which were not thoughtfully placed, with the dark trim. I painted it all BM White Dove, and suddenly the house was open, airy, and gorgeous... filled with light. It was an amazing transformation. Everyone who'd been trying to convince me not to paint it wound up saying they were wrong. Now, your house is already pretty airy looking, and your trim is lighter to start with.... but my point is that if you want white trim in the kitchen, do it!!!...See MoreWhite or dark brown bathroom vanity?
Comments (17)After 20 years of builders beige and gray trends everyone is conditioned to fear color. White is safe. I love your inspiration picture and do believe that you could easily do a dark vanity with your flooring. I do agree that the first vanity is a bit too red, but many dark woods would look great with your floor. z One other thing you want to consider is how the rest of your home is decorated. You want a harmonious feeling throughout your home. What rooms are near this bathroom and how are they decorated? If you own a lot of white and light furniture having one room with a dark vanity may feel disconnected. If you have mostly dark wood furniture and throw in a white vanity it may feel disconnected....See MoreHow to improve the look of dark brown exposed beams?
Comments (48)As long as the surface of the beams is rough it will always be a problem with dust and dirt...sandblasting or sanding or just using a scrub brush and cleaner are options that are mostly labor intensive...wrapping as an option looks less authentic as a beam...makes the beam bigger .....and always looks like a fake beam....with the added expense of all the material needed....almost all options come with a risk that the walls will be damaged and need touching up ...if it was me...i would try cleaning them first....to maintain the authenticity...and then touch up if any of the color has come off.....See MorePaint white, textured ceiling beam brown?
Comments (5)Hello Julie my name is Al I am from Conquest Painting. I think it would be a very great idea to paint it brown to match the flooring. The beam does not take up too much space and would not be overwhelming. It can be treated like a nice trim piece to match the floors. Hope this helps!...See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
