I thought this was an interesting question. IÂll post some thoughts in the hopes it will spark comments from others. I found one thread that mentions frosted glass being used in a conservatory: Opinions on Frosted Glass? Frosted glass does diffuse the light, and diffused light is beneficial. In spite of that, I couldnÂt find much information on the Internet regarding the use of frosted or etched glass in greenhouses. So, my guess (just a guess) is that frosted or etched glass is not widely discussed as an option for glass greenhouses because it doesnÂt negate the need for shadecloth or whitewash in sunny situations. If it provided a definite advantage over clear glass, it seems like it would be easier to find more references to its use. I donÂt see why it would be too opaque. Maybe itÂs not discussed much because the people who choose glass greenhouses also enjoy seeing in or out; if they didnÂt care about that, they might as well choose polycarbonate. That being said, I think you have a good reason to work with this idea. If it helps you transform recycled windows into something that pleases you when you look up at themÂinstead of being annoyed by streaksÂthen why not? The only downside I can see is you might find you still have to do something additional to diffuse the sun coming into your structure. (I wish I had the experience to wager a guess about that, but I sure donÂt.) IÂd be tempted to try one window (or a scrap piece of glass) to see if I liked the results. Now, if itÂs a double paned window, and you frosted both pieces of glassÂwould that diffuse the light even more? I donÂt know... Maybe someone that knows more about light diffusion than I do will pipe in here.

The film we used will allow you to see only an indistinct shape and some movement when it is dark outside, the subject is illuminated brightly and only when the subject is standing within inches of the window. It does not allow you to see detail or clear outlines. In other words the most you see is a moving blurry blob! Our modesty when using our ground floor bathroom is protected! I remember at Lowes they had small samples, like tiny windows, that you could test for the level of obscurity. The film we chose was the only one at the time that offered that degree of privacy.

I colored clear bottles for a plaque recently by thinning crimson oil paint w/turp and swirling it on the inside of my bottles. Works like a charm. All the red things I've seen are painted on the outside, and the paint will come off for sure.

Around 15 years ago I did use remote thermometers to measure temperatures at various areas throughout a few weeks of Spring. I don't know where that data is but the bottom line is that cold spots occurred and I lost a few plants. I had then constructed a 11x 90' canopy frame within my largest high tunnel and covered it with fabric. Then I further put wire hoops over my tomato plants under the canopy and covered them with another layer of row cover. My false premise was that I could protect the tomato plants even when the outside temperature dropped to 25*F. I lost a few plants when temperatures even dropped slightly below 30*F. If the night is clear and the temperature drops quickly so that it remains below freezing for an extended time the covers alone are unreliable. Many specialists like Adam Montri, Mich. State, still recommend a double cover method. I'm far happier with my supplemental heat. In fact the only plants that I've lost since then when planting 2 months before last frostfree date occurred was when my woodpile caught on fire 6 years ago.
