Cleaning Tips Windows Home Repair

problems with a window

I have my barbecue on the deck and I noticed that the window next to it is streaked in smoke. I pull the barbecue away from the window but I think the smoke got to it. I have tried various things to clean it but it will not clean. It almost seemed etched by the smoke. Is there anyone who can help me with this? Thanks.

It‘s possible the heat from the bbq (or just a coincidence) has caused the seal on your thermopane window to fail. then you will see fogginess between the panes. look up failed thermopane windows on google to see if yours looks like that. if so, the only solution is replacement. if you post a pic of your window here you might get more help.

Hi, You didn't mix up the lower and upper weights? Sometimes the upper weights are slightly heavier, so the top sashes don't creep down. Did you replace the glass with thinner/lighter panes? If the weights were appropriate for 1/4" plate glass they would be to heavy for single-strength glass. If the cords are slightly too short, the weight is hitting the pulley. If this is the case, the window may rise slightly from closed, but stop. If the weight is too heavy, it keeps going up & up. These are the three things I could think of. HTH Casey

Ahhhh.... No. Do not pay him anymore till the problem is solved. Did he measure and supply the windows? There is a possibility the manufacturer may say they are installed incorectly at 80% you will get stuck with a porly done job needing more money to fix.

No.. We do installs all year long, it could be a pain from an installers point of view if he isnt dressed warm, thats about it. I get this question all the time, doesnt matter. A good sealant will work well in cold weather. This post was edited by mmarse1 on Mon, Feb 9, 15 at 8:21

Thanks everyone. A picture is hard to take - I do not know if you can see the etching on the right side. I will try to take a picture when it is not so sunny. I will check the failed thermopane. I have not tried rubbing alcohol but will give this a try. I did try the scotch scrubbie.

Smoke cannot "etch" glass. Not really sure what you could have going on. Do you know the window brand? Can you take a picture of the spacer bar (metal piece that holds the pieces of glass apart)? Do you know if this is a laminated glass unit, can you take a picture of the logo in one of the corners of the glass?

I tried the rubbing alcohol and it does not work. I checked about pictures about the failed thermopane and my window is not foggy. It looks like it is etched. Tried to take another picture trying to show smoky etching. Thanks,

Google A1 Hardwater Stain Remover

Not the cheapest option but this is the best product that I have found to remove stains from glass.

Never put a bbq too close to a window or siding.

I pull the barbecue away from the window and side of house when I barbecue. It is stored close to the house.

Picture of barbecue site when in use. I pull it close to the house when not using it so that it is protected from wind.
