Can I paint coated composite shower walls?

70’s bathroom remodeling and we can’t afford to replace. The bathroom ceiling is pitched and angled at about 20 degrees with the shower at the shortest part and a skylight on the ceiling. The shower walls are from the 70’s and a composite material with some sort of water coating over it. I wasn’t sure if it were possible to paint and seal over it in a way that is water proof. It’s not a high trafficked shower, maybe used a handful of times per year, so it wouldn’t get a ton of wear but we’d like it to hold up if painted for at least a few years. Was thinking an epoxy paint with an epoxy sealer but wanted to consult with some other opinions before taking any action. Thanks!
