Breaking up long backsplash with tiled walls and a shelf
Comments (7)Thanks rhome410. Good questions. A lot of my inspiration pictures have the 'enclosed' cooktop; I do have 9" of space on either side as well as the 48" cooktop space (and I have yet to have all burners going at once though I came close for one party!). Trim... I think we can figure out. I really just can't reach back behind the cooktop... and haven't had to clean there regularly after cooking, so think I'm OK. (I usually cook on front burners, though). When I talk display, it might be various cooking utensils/containers/flowers... so fine for those to get dirty. No fine art planned :) I will play with your suggestion for building out the area. It reduces my sump/capture area by 6" but... it's still quite large. Thanks!! ***** Closing this thread (too longwinded on my part). I created another one; please post any replies to that one instead of this one. Comments (4)We have a shelf that is nearly 30 feet long, and it's mounted with the brackets on the top. I wouldn't hesitate to load it with books or pottery or other heavy items. However, the shelf and brackets are very thick wood--nearly 2" thick (probably a "2-by" rather than a "1-by"). So if you can find a 2x16, that's what I'd use. You could also get a glu-lam beam. Here are a few lousy photos I just took: I can't get a good photo of the entire beam, but you get the idea....See Morehow do I decorate around this tiered gold shelf?
Comments (3)IMO a large piece of art would be a lot better choice on that wall and be careful with mirrors they need to reflect something you want to see twice. If glam is sort of the style you are going toward something like these for art work ideally with some other color to use for accent and IMO the recliner really needs to be somwher else and be replaced with a nice chair and ottoman maybe in a pale blue leather...See MoreShelves! Can I use straight brackets for a really long and heavy shelf
Comments (6)First question would be "how would you react to finding all your dishes broken on the floor?" So people change them frequently and wouldn't be upset....See Moreeverdebz
