potting bench from pallets
Comments (17)Full disclosure. The legs and shelf were not made from pallets. Those are scrap pieces of wood we either already had or picked up at H.D. store in their scrap pile. If you guys haven't discovered the scrap wood bin, you are missing something. It is usually in the back of the store. They routinely sell nice odd-sized boards for $0.50. We used 2 on this project, so I technically spent $1 :) About the quality of the pallets. There are definitely some out there that are nicer than others. Just be patient and be picky....See MoreAn 'inspired' potting bench
Comments (22)I love my new potting bench! It's now complete with planted flowers. The backside I added a flower box and planted it with purple salvia and a ferny houseplant...can't wait until they flower...also added a bright cobalt blue glass vase (upside down) inspired by you glass/mosiac people! Also put up a bracket on the edge of the door and hung a wire basket planted with purple wave petunias...they should be awesome when they grow. We've had some warm weather here the last couple days! The bench sits over a big half rotten stump. On the table top is a pot of pansies. Later on I plan on laying flagstone in front of the bench and, hopefully, lead the path to my ol' garden shed. This has been a fun project and I can't believe how much I've used it already and kept the dirt off my patio table & chairs now! Jeanne S....See MorePotting bench from recycled bits
Comments (17)Yeah. It should hold up to the elements well and the grid shelving lets detritus fall through. The tubes are solar lights so I can work in the evening too. I don't do a lot of potting in the dark but I had them so I put them on the bench and I live in SoCal where you don't necessarily want to be outside working on some days. ;> Thanks for all the kind words!...See MoreGreat potting bench with picnic table!
Comments (14)Joy333 Thanks for finding it! Yes, that is the 1 & wish I had my old set back, but it was gift to DD after she married & it has been around all of his family so hard telling where it is now. Mine was the 1967 version which was very heavy so I imagine it is still going strong in someone's kitchen or back yard. She painted it white but I think it would look great any color. Diggery-so glad you can make use of 1 from your dad! You made my day! Actually my folks have 1 over at their house so I doubt anyone will want it after they are gone so I might end up with it then & that would be great memory of them. Dad was a great gardener, he could graft trees & get 5 kinds of apples,he's stick a rose branch in a bucket of water & soon was planting it.I'm tending his stuff now since he only sees it when we go to dr or looking out the window. Post a pic when you are finished. I think the star on the end is so neat but would be fun to see how others finish them off!! Great that all you need is paint, boards, drill & screws & some pots & finishing touches. Wonderful for those that can't build a box & have it end up square!!LOL Jan...See MoreJilly
