Thank you for your help everyone. I found a piece of info that said Colonial White= American Standard and Cotton=Kohler White. While my DH was getting some other things done at Lowes, I told him to look at the colors of American Standard and Kohler whites. He couldn't tell the difference. LOL. I'm sure I could because I agonize over such decisions, but if he couldn't at least he won't have an opinion about it! Staceyneil - nice to see you on the forums again! My kitchen is still a work in progress, almost done and ready for pics to be posted. Just need backsplash and more hardware. How is yours coming along? So I guess I've moved on to stressing about bathrooms now! Yours looks AMAZING btw! Totally dream bathroom!

I only bought Toto toilets for my bath redos since my sinks were to be undermount in granite. My contractor did notice a large scratch on the side of one of the tanks similar to what you describe: under the glaze. He asked if we wanted to bring it back to the local dealer I got it through, but since it was (luckily) on the side facing the vanity, the shadows don't make it noticeable, and since we had only one working toilet at the time, we just accepted it. If the 6" long scratch was on the front of the tank, I would have taken it back. I noticed that both toilets were made in Indonesia. Let's hope Toto's quality won't be diluted by this global manufacturing.

What your showroom told you makes no sense to me. Colonial white and cotton white are really 2 different whites--why would they both be the same as the Kohler white? When I was in your position matching different brands of whites, I stopped into a paint store and picked up one of those big paint chip sample sheets (I think it happened to be of Benjamin Moore whites) and then went to the different stores that carried the products I wanted and matched the paint chip whites to figure out which worked best. (did that explanation make sense?)

Go to Toto site and click on any toilet. In a blue box you'll see "COLORS". Click that and another window will pop up. Once there, there's a reference to other colors and that you should "click here". I just tried and the info is "x"ed out but I've definetly seen it before. I don't know if I can't now because of settings on my new pc or if they've changed the site. They will also mail samples and I got my chips in less than a week. I found it pretty hard to appreciate the color difference on the 1"sq chips but it's distinguishable if you look hard. Seeing the fixture in person is much more useful.
