Help! 70s exterior paint
Comments (42)I love your brick. It is the tone that is timeless(not like 50's pink, you know?) If you paint the siding as you plan and leave the brick for last, you will know if you enjoy seeing the brick, I would think in a couple of weeks time, after completing the trim and the siding....you will know if the brick accents are pleasing to your home aesthetics.. I think it is very pretty. There are folks that don't care for brick..they prefer siding and thus, they paint the brick. I think brick adds elegance and fits well with your house. It is your house. These are just opinions offered. Do what makes you happy. I just think your brick is very pretty, and with warm colors or warm neutrals it looks like a nice way to make your house look special and unique in it's colors. And it is not in bad shape, the mortar has not been patched as a result of poor installation or foundation issues in times before you owned it, and why buy paint if you are not trying to bring a cosmetic benefit to the brick -that is what drives a lot of brick painting in many areas--that and the dated color of the brick too as mentioned earlier. However, if you do not paint the brick you might be able to not paint the fireplace chimney. IF you do paint it all, than don't forget the fireplace chimney. It's a very pretty home!! Others may add something that helps you decide? Brick's advantage over siding, is you don't HAVE to paint it regularly like siding.. Once you do however, it's now a part of exterior maintence for you and the future owners to endure....See MoreNeed help revitalizing a '70s contemporary exterior
Comments (6)Really nice house and lot. Would want all downstairs windows to actually open and a front porch instead of a front deck. You could add a flat or nearly flat roof over your existing deck or extend that forward facing gable and put an upstairs bonus room with windows that actually open over an actual front porch. Liking the large older trees in the front yard but you might consider removing the one closest to the front of the house since its base is leaning toward the house. Would want the gutter/downspouts to visually disappear as much as possible, even on the side and back. Instead of (or in addition to) a lot of angled steps in the back of the house, have you considered building a deck that wraps around the house over the garage doors so you have the option of less steps to reach a landing in the yard above the retaining wall....See More70s Ranch Exterior Paint Help
Comments (7)This is the sculptural plant ceramic pot idea. We had two large ceramic pots on both sides of the exterior entryway.... We painted the front door teal to coordinate with them. Overall, it expanded the front entryway with color. (These pots are usually mported from Vietnam-Google Vietnamese pots. You should be able to find them. We went to the City of industry and got a great deal Place this red spikey plant: Cordyline red star in twin pots that match your front door. Use others as a sculptural accent to your front garden... Also, consider Meyers fern aka foxtail fern These have an intense green color and a whimsical shape, which makes them my favorite zone 9 plant. These are best used in a front yard planter, as they can produce some (minimal) berries. Yet, I always worry about pets...See MoreExterior Paint Color for 70's Brick Ranch
Comments (7)No dark browns. Cream and red brick is classic. If you are a bit more adventurous you can do a bit of blue or green with some cream. This brick isn't as dark as yours, but I think the blue and cream they used would be great colors on your home as well....See MoreMARJORIE UY
