Lighting-how much is too much?
Comments (19)There is NO SUCH THING as "too many lights"! Our aging eyes need many more lumens to see the same things clearly that we saw well with younger eyes. More lights are always better! And incorporate dimmers into all of them so that you can adjust the levels infinitely. Dimmers are the key to being happy with your lighting. BTW, I would not do pendants on either side of an island hood. That's too many things hanging from the ceiling. I would do two cans with flood lamps. Don't forget a few cans with spot lamps to wash down the front of your cabinets to create drama. You want both flood and spot lamp recessed lighting, as well as under cabinet, and a couple of semi flush fixtures as well. Maybe even some small lamps....See MoreNeed Design Opinions -How much is too much sparkle??? Pics
Comments (43)I agree with Sue b, I really like the accent tile idea. I had a similar problem, took almost a year to decide. If one more person suggested white subway I was going to scream, just because it was essentially what I had just torn down! I got the same MOP sample as you have, (among others), but ended up with a linear stone backsplash to balance out my "blingy" granite. It provided the calming, organic balance I needed- it makes me happy! Hang in there, you will find what you are looking for!...See MoreHow much wallpaper is too much?
Comments (3)What reviews and recs do you have for each of the 4 installers? Do you personally know people who have used any of them on complex projects? Investing this much time and $ I would want the best, not necessarily the cheapest. May I ask what your wallpaper selection is? I'm sure it's very special....See MoreHow much rustic is too much rustic?
Comments (5)Thanks everyone! I don't have pictures of my home, as it is just a pile of dirt so far. Just trying to gather my materials for installing when the time comes. And I don't plan to order the sconces from the website I posted-just happened to be the first picture I found for the link. I will keep hunting for some other lights and weigh my options. Thanks again!!...See MoreJeffrey R. Grenz, General Contractor
