Sorry but the pics are hard to get a feel for the spaces I think I see stone on the island base that IMO needs to be removed. Better lighting would be my first step so make sure all the bulbs are LEDs 4000K the pendants above the island do nothing for the space thay are too high and IMO too small. Waht was the reason for the knotty pine doors IMO paint those white to work with your other doors . You will need to prime them with the proper primer I do 2 coats of primer then 2 coats of paint. I would look a t something like this for the walls maybe cut 25% if you want a bit lighter Add some lamps to the LR and a simple one color shag rug . Before adding the rug see wht colors you like from the art .BTW no ceiling fan in a kitchen replace that with a good light .

So we just purchased this place. I have no idea why previous owner built or decorated this way. We have all 5000 light bulbs, so you can see at 10 am in the morning how this great room has no natural light. I can pain the cabinets and even build out the above space above the cabinets but the whole ceiling is vaulted to 25 feet! This great room is proving more challenging than ever to decorate and find a good color to go with the ugly floors.

You have a lot of different undertones going on, so it is going to be challenging to find the perfect neutral that won't go too far in any one direction and will pull all of these together.

I have picked 3 neutrals with slight taupe undertones. I think one of these 3 will work for you in your space with your lighting, but there is no substitute for testing and you need to test your paint colors correctly.

To test these samples you need to paint multiple large sample on 18x24 watercolor paper and place a larger paper or poster board behind it that is white. You will want to move these samples around the room and look at them next to the door, the flooring, the fireplace, the countertop, the cabinets.

Look at only one sample color at a time. If you have them side by side you will compare them to each other instead of seeing how they look next to the colors that are staying.

This is the same reason you need white behind your sample. The current wall color will throw things off and make these samples seem more purple than they are.

Place the samples all over in different locations and live with them for a week, look at them at all different times of the day and really get a feel for how they work in your space.

At the end of a week one will be speaking to you more loudly than the other two.

Do not use the pink beige area rug. You already have too many neutrals.

Use a carpet that has either blue greens or green blues. These colors will work nicely with all of your neutrals and be good accent colors.

I will get those samples to try. Do you recommend a beige with a green undertone? I am still trying to decide if my floors have a yellow undertone or a pink undertone. If pink that is going to be harder in my opinion.

My home is SW Balanced Beige. This may be alittle to dark for you but I love it.

Before I show you the color wheel with your flooring I want to explain something.

When we were into the builders beige and white craze everyone hated anything with a pink undertone. It really didn't work with the yellow beige trend.

Then we moved from builders beige to gray. After a couple of years people started screaming for a bit more warmth, but the didn't want the builders beige that now looks "dated".

So we moved to warmer grays - greige (green gray / green beige) and taupe (pink beige . violet gray)

Many of the popular colors today are those orange based and red based beige grays.

Here is your flooring in the middle of a color wheel with the core neutrals.

You are in the dark pink beige color family.

Now I added your furniture (Orange wood with a gray wash)

Again you have datk pink beige with fading to taupe and some violet undertones.

Here are the paint colors I picked with these colors and the colors in your fireplace.

Notice the same color in your fireplace as your flooring?

Notice the same grays in the fireplace as your furnishings?

These elements work well together.

I have tried whites which the ones I had picked all then looked lavender ugh.

I do want to finish out the cabinets to the ceiling even with the vault. I do know I need new lights and a backsplash. I figured the first phase needs to get this paint color right on the walls and then go after the cabinets and backsplash and lighting.
