Checked out Hubbardton Forge, nice stuff, not exactly the right sizes or colors. But a very nice line. While at Lamps Plus I did see the Kichler Montara Collection 24 1/2" Wide Pendant light with umber glass. It's a bit old world and might have to be shortened but the price was certainly right! I've also seen ONLINE this porcelain fixture, but I hate to buy something like this sight unseen! I have about 114" from the beam to the floor and a pendant will spread the light better as well as look better mounted on the beam. That leaves about 7 ft from the floor and this will/should sit over the large square glass/wood coffee table. Here is a link that might be useful: Fixture choice

I love your countertop slabs, they are stunning. Based on all the criticism I looked at your layout and I see a lot of positives. You have a sink for cleanup near the dishwasher drawers and stove, and a second sink for prep work. That sink is not far from the fridge, so you can grab an armload of produce and get right to work ... and as you work the kids who just want a drink or snack from the fridge can get it without coming into the work L. This isn't a studio apartment, it is meant to work for a large family and so yeah, you may need to take 2-3 more steps to get around but that is somewhat unavoidable. For lights ... maybe something like this if you want something bold that isn't adding a lot of color: Huddardton Forge Erlenmeyer Flask Pendant Just a thought. Congrats on the new house. Don't worry about the people here who enjoy shooting arrows of doubt and dismay without offering to help identify ways to improve things. Some people naturally look for flaws and love to point them out (instead of asking why something was designed this way vs that way). It can't be a fun way to live life.

tjd_88- I interpret your pictures to mean that you have a separate box for each of the two new fixtures. Those two red wires in your first photo do not appear to be normal gauge for Romex cable. They look like lighter gauge fixture wires that have been inserted into heat shrink sleeves for protection for some reason. What are these wires attached to in the box? I hope you aren't going to tell me they are coming into the box from somewhere else. One thought is that these are short lengths of wire that are wire nutted to the actual cable wires into the box to extend them, but that's pretty weird. Please look further in that box and report back. Finally, looking at the second photo and the wire nut on the left: Is the fatter wire a black wire with some white paint on it, or a white wire that someone has colored black at the end (which would often indicate that it's coming from the switch)? I suspect your problem has to do with a loose connection involving the two red wires, or that the switch wire got connected up wrong when you were redoing this. Did you take a picture at the start of this project to make sure you rewired them identically to what you started with? Because they presumably run off the same switch, a failure to wire correctly in either box could explain why they both don't work.
