I have a few ideas. When I think of fast, I think of Silverlace Vine, Fallopia baldschuanica. healthy, vigorous growth easily within a year and will have lots of flowers to boot, but the shade might be a hinderence to it. Kudzu is far more dramatized than it really is, the only reason I would shy away from it is, again, the shade. Kudzu is only rampent once it gets full sun, high heat, and lots of water. Conversely, if you want something that kills even kudzu and grows nearly as fast in shade as sun. The Air Potato, Dioscorea bulbifera is a no-nonsense, incredibly easy vine that has huge, beautiful, metallic leaves and with the added bonus of growing bulbis at the leaf axils. We were also wanting windows with black interiors and exteriors. For us the local availability brought it down to a choice between Pella or Milgard fiberglass windows. The Pella offerings were somewhat pricier, and we could never quite understand the why of it. We wound up selecting Milgard Ultra, and we're happy with the end results. And Milgard's warranty was fantastic, as our landscaper accidentally hit one window with a stone and chipped it, but Milgard replaced the insert without so much as a blink. One factor is whether a particular manufacturer's black is acceptable to you. Milgard's is called Black Bean, which is a bit lighter than true black, and I fussed over this for quite a while. Pella's may have been very slightly blacker, but also not true black. Now that we can see the final product in place, it looks fine. Good luck on your project. Brian

I would use the drapes to make pillow covers and IMO black drapes do not say MCM so get new drapes. If you post a pic of your bedroom you might get some good ideas for drapes .

I agree with PCC. It's hard to find good quality blackout drapes that will do what you want without spending $$$ (a lot of curtains that claim to be blackout are single layer and don't really result in true blackout, in my experience). If you want to spend $$$, custom drapes are probably the best way to go, and you can use a ceiling track to go wall-to-wall. Otherwise I would get blackout shades and layer with blackout curtains (you probably wouldn't need to pony up for custom in this scenario as the shade does the bulk of the light blocking, and the curtains take care of the edges).
