Re: the sturdier stems that is touted.

Based on my casual observation of LL Prime that was @ the nursery, the new growth stems do appear to be thicker and sturdier than of the same equivalent LL. On the marketing verbiage of this (without seeing one grown established), I can at least concur their marketing about the sturdier stems is true. Flopper aside, anyone plant one and feedback on the bloom itself

I’d be interested in this also. I’m disappointed that Quickfire Fab turned out to be a flopper and also did not bloom any earlier than QF or LQF. We had a tremendous number of storms in Michigan this summer, and my Firelights got floppy for the first time ever! I hard pruned them last December so my window candles could be seen for Christmas, so I probably cut their strongest stems, sigh.

Did you happen to see this new cultivar (and maybe take a picture) with the blooms turning colors? I saw a picture with half of a white bloom turning kind of an ugly (ugly only to me) shade of reddish and have been waiting to find more pics but they always show the blooms white.

Your engine is an LV148EA built by Tecumseh for Electrolux/Sears. Built in the early to mid 2000's, so one of the later Tecumseh before they went out of business. Although you could have primer bulb problems as mentioned above, probable cause is blocked passages behind one or the other welch plugs. Unfortunately carb cleaner by itself won't help. (if gas can't get through, neither can carb cleaner). You need to disassemble carb, pry out the plugs, and then clean out the passages with a fine wire or welding tip cleaners. Then soak in carb cleaner, press in new welch plugs, and then reassemble. The rebuild kit is about $15, and new 640339 carburetor is about $50. The rebuild kit and dealing with the welch plugs takes some technical skill. The complete carb is expensive, but almost foolproof.

I didn't comment when I saw the first comment come out because when it comes right down to it, either way is fine. The reason it's usually recommended against tiling over painted surfaces is that you can't predict when the paint will let go, and the only thing I, as the tile contractor can warranty, is that the thinset won't let go from the paint. Now, with drywall, I've yet to ever see paint over drywall, UNDER THINSET, let go. This is why I don't have a problem tiling kitchen backsplashes that have been painted for a couple of years. However, I also don't have a problem setting directly over bare drywall, either. You DO have to be watchful, though, that the thinset doesn't dry out on you or skin over too quickly.

Can you post a photo of a leaf in close up?? They look very small and I am unable to determine what species it might be from the current photos. To be honest, your tree looks much worse than I had imagined from your description. In fact, it is more dead than alive and I am not sure it is recoverable. Large portions of dieback like what is showing is often an indicator of a vascular issue that is pretty much a fatal situation with maples. Cut off that lowest dead limb as close to trunk as you can manage. Peel off the bark at the cut end for several inches and give us a photo of that as well as a shot of the cut itself. That could help to narrow things down.......

The one I removed was mainly as I have no more space for new shrubs and bough new ones to test. So out came one in order for the new one to take it's place. The newer variants (Lime light prime - smaller than the OG LL) and Little Lime Punch supposedly have stiffer-stronger stems. It's too early to tell - might know more in ike 4 years from now. These are the test ones. I have a Limelight in one area that is a small edge and 3 Limelight Trees. They just -glow- at night and fairly maintence free. If you're growing a tree form, use a metal stake for at least 4 years - till it's fairly well rooted. IME, wood is just not stroung enough of a stake for a really topheavy wide LL tree. One of my 3, even though I have used 3 stakes and tiedowns from young planting till it was well rooted (can topple over and uproot if too many blooms, and a noreaster windy day). Even though I had it staked well, when in bare wood format in winter (you can see the trunk has like a 15% lean) and it's mainly due to the entire mass of bloom heads-weight just growing in the direction of the sun and putting the weight too -forward-.

Nope. And it was just yesterday but if memory recalls, the stems were reddish. And I may be totally wrong on that ! What can I say - something like as you get old......

The blooms were small and white. Some still had a tinge of lime. but I didn't pay much note as I presume it's been coddled and juiced up all season long for the -fall flush- of fall plantings. I did not see these last week when I was there . But in seeing it person, you can cleary see that even though it's a young one, all the stems are thicker/sturdier and fairly ridgid for a 3G sized pot forsale

I don't really think of limelight as a flopper comapred to some others on the market. The one year it did for me is the year I pruned it hard. Left it alone since and it's been fine. I got a limelight prime late last year and yep, it's yet another paniculata. It'll take a few years to assess whether it's improved or unique in any way.

Do you find all the growth to be fairly ridgid.

That was at least my simple impression at looking at the pots on display. Bad analogy but -every- single stem was just as ridgid as a bamboo stake.

it does seem stiffly upright as a young plant.
