Comments (29)Nicole -- Oh, thank you for taking time to figure an estimate. I was thinking more like a thousand dollars. I can't find anything new that is as nice. I think it cost about $1500 from Marshall Field's in the early 1990's. (Big splurge.) It's held up beautifully, but wear is wear -- and "kids is kids". I hold off on these things, partly because we have what DH and I term "an address tax". If it were less big and heavy I'd have my DS and DIL take it and get estimates from their city address....See MoreWing Chair - Completed - DIY Upholstery
Comments (40)Rosie - Thanks! Purchase and upkeep of cars can drain the bank pretty fast. Four acres of wooded trees!...now that sounds wonderful! I would love to have a place with that much land & trees. I don't know what upholstery shops charge these days. I know that I could not ever do upholstery as a profession. I work way too slow. Also, I'm able to forgive myself if some part of my work is not perfect. If I did it for someone else, I'd stress about every little imperfection. The fabric cost alone is all that I'm willing to invest in my old furniture. None of my furniture is high end. The only piece that is really well made is my grandma's chair (the goose neck arm chair) which I will begin working on in about a week. I once kept track of how many total hours I spent on one of my sofas...68 hours (over a 2 month span). Knowing all the work I've put in to these pieces, I would not complain about the high prices the pros charge....See MoreCompleted upholstery job. Pics...

I found a .50cent fleece remnant(it has a heavy backing on it), it was enough to do both benches. It feels like mohair or velvet! :0)...See More8-Way Hand Tie - My Upholstery Project Continues!
Comments (14)yayagal - Thanks. I'm looking forward to the next steps which are less daunting! alex9179 - I hope you post your club chair. I am glad this inspires you towards getting it done : ) Finding the right fabric takes time. mamorella - Thanks : ) I will post the finished product, but... it may take several weeks.....a wedding, 2 birthdays, & the Holidays. mlweaving - I like the book Singer Upholstery Basics. I bought it at JoAnn's Fabric Store & I've seen it online. I watched several different videos and the one that helped me the most was Kevin Kennedy's (linked below). He uses 12 oz. tacks in his video. My local upholstery supply store did not sell tacks & suggested I use their No Sag Nails. The nails worked well. There are some helpful pictures here http://www.designsponge.com/2011/08/upholstery-basics-constructing-coil-seats-part-i.html equest17 - I compared the old & new edge rolls this morning & took a picture. The old one is covered in some type of burlap and the filling looks like some sort of paper or straw type fiber. This chair has been reupholstered 2-3 times before. Maybe, it had horsehair edge roll at one time. I know I removed horsehair on one of the seat layers. Here is a link that might be useful: How to Do An 8 Way Hand Tie...See Morenicole___
