Can a 25 lb. turkey fit in a 30" Bluestar LP range?

One of the ranges we're considering is a 30" Bluestar liquid propane range. It seems like as we go up in price, the ovens get a bit smaller. I love to bake and my husband uses the oven a fair amount for roasts, etc.

I am concerned about oven size, though. Is the oven of a Bluestar 30" range big enough to hold a 25 lb. turkey? We don't live near a dealer to see one in person. Anyone with a 30" Bluestar who can help me out?

I'm not sure about the dimensions of a 25lb turkey, but the oven in my Bluestar LP 30" RCS range has clearance of just over 12" from the bottom rack position to the top surface of the oven cavity. The side to side clearance between the left and right rack mounting rails is 24". Rack depth is just over 17".

Sheet pan capacity is larger (18"D x 26"W) since it can extend left and right between the rack mounting rails and forward beyond the front of the racks without hitting the inside of the door.

I'm cooking our Thanksgiving turkey this very moment.. (we do it Saturday after due to family that has to work, etc..) SO anyway.. this is our first home, and the first thanksgiving we've held.. and I've never ever made a turkey before.. SO this is what I did.. and tell me if it's going to turn out disastrous or not! I preheated my electric roaster to 450F and rubbed butter, s&p, and paprika on turkey(its 18 lbs).. i browned it for about 30 minutes.. then i turned it down to 325.. and i also have a box of chicken broth in the bottom of the roaster. I started this whole process around 11:30am.. it's not 3:13pm.. and I'm hoping it's done by 4:30pm.. any ideas if it will be or not?? It's been cooking at 325F for about 3 hours now.. and I keep finding sites that say about 4 hours to cook.. i also just turned it up to 350 to be totally sure it cooks all the way

Hi All, This is my 5th Thanksgiving with a 40+ lb. turkey. This year's bird is a hefty 46 lbs. I'm doing things a little differently this year. I'm not putting the stuffing in the bird this year. He's heavy enough without it and I worry about getting the stuffing hot enought to be safe. On the flip side that means I can't put the bird in the oven just yet so I have to stay up later. ARGH! The bird is beautiful as usual, freshly slaughtered on Sunday. With having such a big turkey you'd think there would be a slew of leftovers but last year we had enought for one turkey pie and one meal of sandwiches. Everyone loves the turkey so they all eat and eat and then take home doggie bags. LOL! I'm trying the Crockpot Mashed Potato recipe this year. They tasted yummy today so... Happy Thanksgiving!

Sorry, just took a look at this thread again and noticed your question...by the time I got to Miele, I had decided on induction, so I didn't give the Miele an actual test drive. I did give it a pretty thorough inspection at the Miele place, though, and thought it was a very sexy range -- and the performance seemed very similar to the Wolf dual fuel. I say that b/c the Miele also has the stacked burners, which I really liked, but the BTUs are higher than Wolf (which top out at around 16k, I believe -- Miele was closer to 20k or so -- I can't quite remember). The Miele ovens on the 48" range were very nice -- the smaller one is a speed oven, and the bigger one is a regular convection. The speed oven wasn't a big plus for me personally, since I really wanted a steam oven as a second oven, but there are people on this forum who love their speed ovens. One thing I really liked about the Miele oven, which Wolf doesn't have, is the burst of steam option, which is great for baking (you can program up to 3 bursts of steam for up to 6 min. each during cooking). I didn't care that much about the MasterChef options on Miele, but again, others love these. At any rate, the Miele seemed very similar to the Wolf, I liked the steam option on the oven better and liked the Miele burners better (also, if you're interested in a grill, theirs was excellent and seemed very similar to the Wolf, which I think is the best in the business). If I had stuck with a range, I would have been very tempted by the Miele.

I have the RNB30, as there wasn't more space in our kitchen. I would kill for a 48", but that will have to wait until we remodel the kitchen, assuming that ever happens. I reconfigured the burners so that we have two 22kBTU and two 15kBTU burners. I find that I personally don't use simmer burners very often. I use a single 22kBTU burner about 50% of the time. Two 22kBTU burners 30% of the time. And three or all four burners the remaining 20% of the time. Every once in a while, I cook larger dinners, and I really would like to have more burners, though. I can leave a stew or a soup on the 22kBTU burner to simmer slowly, and I can even make things such as sauce hollandaise without setting up a double boiler. But the latter does require a little bit of skill. So, your personal preference might be different and maybe you'll really like the simmer burner. If I was fortunate enough to have a six burner range, I probably wouldn't have bothered about replacing the simmer burner, but as is, I am very happy with our configuration. We've had it for about five years now, and it replaced a Viking that came with the house -- what an unbelievable step up! The 22kBTU burners are awesome. Food cooked in the wok finally feels fried and not just steamed. It still doesn't get quite the same "burned" taste that restaurants manage, but I think that requires a lot more BTU than can be installed in a residential kitchen. Also, I have a couple of pots/pans that kind of require that I heat them up to full heat once, before I can start cooking (e.g. my rolled carbon steel skillet and my cast iron pots). With the 22kBTU that happens in no time and I don't even need to think about it anymore. I use the full size oven all the time. If I had two ovens, I probably would find good use for the smaller oven, but as is I have gotten used to needing a minimum 20min pre heat time; it just requires planning ahead.

...lol Anna. We've been struggling with selecting a range. I know it may sound silly to hinge one's selection on a turkey, but I would be upset if I wasn't able to make our turkey for Thanksgiving because we chose an oven that's too small.

In the 20 years I've been on Houzz/Gardenweb, I have never ever seen someone complain that their turkey didn't fit in a 30" oven,

Here are some more specific measurements:

Total oven cavity height (at front of opening): 15"

Height of oven floor plate (flame spreader) above bottom of cavity: 1.5"

Height of top of lowest slide out rack above top of oven floor plate: 1"

Bottom of broiler ceramic element below top surface of oven cavity: 0.25"

Bottom of broiler igniter below top surface of oven cavity: 1.5"

So worst case maximum cooking height is between bottom of broiler igniter and top of lowest slide out rack (11"), but that is only in a small area (2" x 6") at the back right side of the broiler.

The practical maximum cooking height between top of lowest slide out rack and bottom of broiler ceramic element is 12.25" (15" - 1.5" - 1" - .25").

doesn’t sound silly at all. Years back when i was looking for a new dishwasher I would bring my plates into the stores to be sure they would fit properly in the racks. Too bad you can’t carry a turkey around with you but maybe you could find one in a store and measure it. Also what size pan do you normally use for your turkey? will that fit comfortably with enough airflow in a 30”?
