Thuja Green Giant fall planting

Joe Williams

Can Thuja Green Giant be planted in fall in a zone 6 climate? I asked this same question a while back in regards to Norway Spruce....however I'm beginning to consider Thuja for this spot. It's a northwest corner of my lawn...on a natural berm...with no trees or structure providing any wind protection. My initial concern is having some dieback next year if I do an October planting, due to not enough established roots to provide moisture during cold winter winds.

Like I said...zone 6, central Indiana area. First hard frost is usually early November...ground freeze is usually mid to late December. I would go with smaller trees...in the 3' range.
