Not fading yellow rose
Comments (27)hi! I love yellow roses so I have most of what is on here, or have at least considered it. Throw out Radiant Perfume, it does not repeat well at all. Julia does fade, love it though. Midas is a wonderful non fading yellow and fragrant. Try this one. St patrick is great and great form but a light scent. Shockwave has none to mild fragrance and although the pic above is awesome, some of the pics have a red hue on the fully open flower edges Hotel california has a mild fragrance according to HMF. Golden Celebration is a climber here, love it I also have 2 yellow climbers Golden Showers (wonderful despite the name), and Scent from above (finally coming into its own in the 3rd year) In addition I have buccaneer but that is difficult to find....See MoreYellows that Fade and Yellows that Don't
Comments (17)Within the time we had them before RRD struck (less than 2 years), our Julia Childs didn't fade a whole lot here in NC. They were always a shade of yellow, identifiably yellow, never merely yellowish or creamy white. In cool weather, that yellow was intense, like butter. I have a picture that I took of Julia Child with an exceptionally early blooming Debutante (beautiful pink) camellia in November. Julia wasn't picked on the first day that she should have come in--but one or two days late, and then it took me a couple of days to get around to taking its picture in the vase. Anyway, it was a nice buttery yellow when I took the picture and the vase of the butter yellow Julia Child and the pink Debutante looked good for at least five days. It was noticeably more faded at the end of its time in the vase, but still looked like a yellow rose. Rise 'N' Shine fades really badly and really quickly, at least in hot weather. (We haven't had it in cool weather yet.) That's in the landscape. But if you notice that a bunch have just opened, you can cut them and bring them inside for a flower arrangement. They stay pretty close to perfectly the same bright yellow once inside in the air conditioning and they make nice little miniature additions to an arrangement. To the extent that we've seen Ghislaine de Feligonde blooming (not much), it fades quickly but is still attractive as a creamy small rose. Comments (12)St Patrick is the best blooming yellow I have and the best holding. Back in CT with cooler temps and here earlier in the year it had that slight green tint that is so attractive but now in the heat the bloom starts medium yellow with a darker yellow center and then fades very slowly eventually almost to white. Now it is getting a bit cooler so maybe there will be the green tint again. I should say that in Z6b St Patrick was quite weak and in many winters it was killed to the ground so it never got very big. My HT's here were planted in February so I don't know how any of them will do after they get well established. Perhaps St Patrick will get really big like the rest....See MoreNeed a yellow Tea that will not fade to white in summer.
Comments (27)Soff, You are very kind! Thank you! In fact, my Lady Hillingdon is grown from cuttings that came from a rose from Peter Beales. That rose was purchased in 2001, so unless he has changed his own stock, we have the same rose. PB's Lady Hillingdon is definitely more vigorous grafted. This is why I want U.S. stock. By the way, you're right, the Italian mail's parcel delivery service is an outrage, and I use that word without exaggeration. I read your profile and saw that you share a lot of my rose interests, also that you're a native French speaker. I can read French, though not fluently: should you want to establish contact you could write in French and I respond in English. I don't know enough old rose enthusiasts in Europe: they're not that common in Italy. You probably have more company in Belgium. Jerome, I still want LH. I don't know if I'll be coming to the U.S. next year: it depends on a lot of things, including how the currently plummeting dollar will be doing. I was also wondering if I could talk others with certifiably wonderful plants into sending cuttings, since even among vigorous LHs there may be more than one clone. That's a lovely photo. I love palms and roses. I just want to mention another yellow Tea that no one has mentioned (possibly with good reason), that's perhaps fussier than some but lovely when it's happy: Isabella Sprunt, the lemon yellow sport of Safrano. Yes, it's pale. Like Safrano, it's somewhat prone to mildew, not that it cares, but the gardener usually does. Mine is growing in the usual super dense clay and wasn't watered during our drought. It defoliated, but is now putting out new growth and getting ready to flower, not the best time of year, but what I'm trying to say is that it's not a rose that keels over and dies when the going gets tough. I adore lemon yellow flowers and wine red new growth. I'm glad to hear good reports of Alliance Franco Prusse. Melissa...See MoreJay Zone 10B India
