Paint Building a Home Design Dilemma

Interior paint combo help!

Hello! I am building a house and selecting my interior paint colors. I need a wall color, trim and cabinet color. I am currently thinking Kelly Moore Swiss Coffee for the walls/ceiling (I have to do KM - that's who the builder uses) and whitest white for all my trim.

i am going for a white that's not too stark but not yellow so I really like the swiss coffee. Would you do the doors the same color as the trim or could I use Swiss Coffee for a contrast?

Also, could I get by with ANOTHER white for my cabinets? I was thinking of Cloud White for my cabinets.

This is one of the hardest decisions because I am not a designer and I know this is a huge impact! thank you!!

@Mark Bischak, Architect LOL!!! I didn't! I was showing those....the picture quality isn't great so you can't tell the difference. I painted posterboard.

I actually love the white doors but my husband thinks it's a bad idea with four little kids. We do have a ton of windows, 10 foot ceilings etc... but in our old home, we didn't have as much light and I did like the gauntlet gray doors. I don't think I can get him to agree to Dover white for doors so I need something! I'm at the paint store and I'm seeing what you are both talking about with the dovetail... I pulled Acier and that might be an option...

Here it is next to the cabinets. The first picture next to the 5-lite door is super white. Second picture is chantilly lace. The door casing and door is pre-primed and will get painted along with everything else but you can see how much more white the super white is next to it. This was taken around 7:45 AM and camera flash ON but no lights were on in the house. Because of the camera flash, the cabinets look more like a black - they’re not this dark in person and like I said, they have a red tone to them because they’re cherry. But since yours are black, i figure it couldn’t hurt. Also keep in mind, while the super white does look stark next to them, I think if we had more linear looking pulls as well as flat slab or simpler cabinet doors, the stark contrast would work. So if you have that, I wouldn’t worry too much about the contrast. (Our cabinets have a slightly more traditional door and there’s also crown molding on them so it’s another reason the super white doesn’t work for us.)

^I like the color combos above with your brick. I also like the front door that apple green surrounded by white. The gray siding would go nicely with your roof and brick. I would use the gray on all of your siding excluding the brick (naturally). Paint your garage door the same gray so it recedes. Consider substantially trimming back your landscaping before you paint so you can see the house.

Hi - why not paint a big board sample - (2 coats of each) and view against different walls in each room? It will offer a clearer view upon how the available light will impact upon them in each space. Changes in light quality and quantity effect all colours, but most especially near neutral colours such as these. You want to know what you are getting but neither are likely to look completely the same from room to room. Note what you like and what you don’t. Chantilly Lace is a much more neutral white than White Dove. (CL has lower Chroma) You may prefer that aspect. But equally, if one of the spaces feels a little dim, you may enjoy the extra Chroma (colourfulness) of White Dove, to help bust through the gloom. Also they have enough difference in Chroma between them, (minimum of 0.2) that should you choose, you could use both of them. One for trim, one for walls. Both Super White & White are more neutral again than Chantilly Lace, but not as light. 🌈

I'd simplify your decision and paint everything in the same white color-cabinets, walls and trim. Matte on the walls, semi-gloss or satin on the cabinets and trim. The difference in sheen will give a subtle contrast, and you don't have to worry that the colors will not work together.

agree completey! we used swiss coffee on our kitchen walls in eggshell & gloss on trim & cabinets. the sheen makes the best contrast

Agree, I am using BM Chantilly Lace throughout my house, with trim, crown and doors in semi-gloss, cabinets in satin, and ceilings in flat (they mistakenly got done in matte and I'll leave it for now). My walls will be an off-white in matte.

First, I would not mix multiple whites. Like others have suggested, use one white in different sheens to create contrast between walls, trim and cabinets.

Second, the white you pick should be one that works well with the other finishes you are choosing. Floors, countertops and furniture.

im going to stick to Swiss Coffee for everything in different sheens. eggshell for my walls and ceiling and semi gloss for trim. I will probably stick to it for cabinets too.

It works with my selections because ive tested it. i just needed to avoid a yellow undertone.
