Daughter's wedding on the lawn: HELP
Comments (6)1. Find the Bermuda Bible on GardenWeb or search for it. 2. Follow his advice. Basically you do the following. Water ONCE a week during the hottest heat of summer, and every other week or monthly otherwise. I grew up in SoCal and there is no place, including Palm Springs, where you need to water more than once a week. One reason you might have crabgrass is because you're watering too often. Crabgrass seed needs water frequently to germinate. By letting the soil dry out for a week the weed seeds don't get the water then need. This means you'll have to water longer each time. I water from 1 to 7 hours, once a week depending on direct sun, wind, and humidity. Mulch mow weekly at the mower's lowest setting. Fertilize every month and with the products as described in the Bermuda Bible. Avoid overseeding the rye. The problem with overseeding is the shade from the rye delays the onset of the bermuda in the spring. Very hot in LA? No it isn't. LA's high temps run in the high 60s most of the year and into the 70s in the summer. I lived 3 miles from LAX for 7 years and needed a windbreaker and sweater every single day of the year. If your temps are hot, then you don't live in LA. This is why it is necessary for SoCal folks to give the name of the town they live in. There are too many zones and even the people living there don't know what the climate differences just a few miles away. But anyway, if you follow the bible you will have a good green lawn in August. Also if you could get your daughter to rethink the August date. I got married, outdoors, in San Antonio, in August - whew!!! THAT was HOT! If the weather looks like it will be really bad, keep an alternate location or an alternate ceremony in mind. We shortened ours by cutting out most of the music....See MoreDaughter's Wedding Reception- please help me!
Comments (13)Please don't take this the wrong way, but here is another very strong vote for having a caterer do this for you, even if it means much less expensive refreshments. It sounds like you don't have a whole lot of cooking experience (you wrote, "I don't know how to prepare anything"). With all respect, a wedding reception for 120 is NOT the time to learn -- even if it weren't your own daughter's wedding. This would be a daunting job even for those with lots of cooking and entertaining experience. I think even -- perhaps especially -- the most experienced would be inclined to get a caterer for a group this large, especially as mother of the bride. You will have so many other things you'll have to attend to, and even more than that that you don't want to miss. Do you really want to be refreshing the buffet when your daughter and son-in-law are having their first dance? If I were in your position, I would call a few caterers, tell them your budget -- and tell them it's FIRM -- and ask what they can do for that money. You may be very pleasantly surprised. If it's still out of range, consider ordering platters from a food store or inexpensive restaurant, and perhaps hiring a few servers/cleaners. You can supplement the latter and probably even the caterer option with some dishes you or friends and relatives make ahead and have the caterer serve along with his/her food. Your peace of mind, not having to worry about this in the months leading up to the wedding, is really important, too, along with being able to enjoy your guests on the big day. To me, that is worth some money. So if I were in your position, I'd cut way back on everything else if necessary: liquor (certainly a fountain is unnecessary), decorations, types of food, prom-y stuff like limos and favors, and even fancy wedding clothes if necessary. Being able to be a relaxed hostess who can enjoy her guests is more important, in my opinion, than fancy arrangements. Everyone is different, but that's just my experience. Congratulations to you all!...See MorePlease help me finish my bedroom
Comments (25)Hello, I am katsmah's daughter. Thank you for all your compliments and ideas on the room. Almost everything you have recommended, I have tried, but she can be rather stuborn. First, I would like to say, I never leaned toward Tiffany Blue. I think it's too bright, and she doesn't like it anyway. I think the blue-ish grey that you see everywhere now would be beautiful in here. As far as prints, I think a Damask would be nice, it's mature and elegant to go with her beautiful furniture, but she doesn't like Damask, or really any prints for that matter. She wants to do stripes, which I think wouldn't go with the lines of the furniture. As far as moving the furniture around, I did a whole layout on a free website, but she said that outside wall is too cold, and she sleeps here, so it's her say in the end. As far as the headboard, I had first traced out the front arch of the dresser to get the proper length, it's the same width as a queen bed, and then I lined up the ends of the mirror to flow seemlessly into the arch and cut that out, but I don't think I can make a wood frame around it....Update! I just found out she want's Damask now, not stripes anymore. Thank you, now I can actually get this thing started. She is starting to trust me now that you have all confirmed what I have been saying. Thank you all....See MoreMy live in Boydriend sleeps with his daughter in our room
Comments (8)Yet even worse companion thread to "Underwear". There is nothing acceptable about either situation, and as stated previously yours carries an implication of pedophilia. Whatever, exactly, he is up to kicks me out of the room should have had a stop put to it the first time it happened. By whatever means necessary, including breaking up with him if you have to - as with "Underwear" one of the two adults in the picture is being completely disrespected. If in addition the one child is being molested, well then not only has it been made clear that the adult relationship is very seriously flawed but there is also a need for a child to be saved from an abuse situation. By whatever means necessary....See Morehomechef59
