How do I clean enameled cast iron pot
Comments (2)I have an enameled cast iron dutch oven also. I really like using it. I use it alot for cooking soups, stews and sometimes roasts. Cast iron is great for even heating. I can set the flame really low when cooking. What you can do is use a plastic scrub pad to clean the inside. There is going to be discoloration on the inside, so do not worry about it. Others will think you are a really good and love to cook. Mine has turned color slightly, but I am not worried. I have also seen the enameled cast iron that others own and found them to be discolored also. You are not alone. If you have rust, you have a problem. If it is on the enamel, it probably means that there is a crack in the enamel. If rust is on the nonenameled rim, just scrub it off with a metal scrub pad and then coat with oil....See MoreUsing a Wing Nut Test Plug to replace a clean out cap
Comments (1)If nothing ever goes wrong, it should be adequate. However, if there should ever be a backup in the sewer line, which can happen during utility work or heavy sustained downpours, you could have a real mess on your hands (and floor). I would attack those threads with wire brushes. A rotary wire brush in a drill will make the task go faster....See MoreInstall Outside Clean Out in Sewer Pipe
Comments (15)So after 3 more hours of digging last night, I found the root of the problem...yes, roots!!! Also, I found that the beginning of the pipe that comes out from the foundation is 4 inch cast iron, it is then connected to a thicker concrete-like pipe. The first piece makes a 90 degree turn and then each piece is about 3 feet long, the outside diameter is about 5.5 inches and each connection has some roots going into it. My plan is to install the clean-out next to the cast iron, and then replace the next 3-4 sections of concrete with 4 inch PVC based on your advice using the no-hub clamps. My problem now is, how do I connect between PVC and the concrete pipe? I'm not sure how to attach pictures here, but I uploaded 3 pictures on my website, so you will get a good look at the situation. http://www.geocities.com/fcandreasson/ Thanks again!
