Thoughts on this backsplash

Hi folks, cream coloured cupboards, grey speckled counters, light grey paint. Just got back from the tile store, the person there recommended a slightly off-white beveled tile. I taped a bunch up to see what it would look like. Would love some input here, or advice on what I should go with instead! Thank you

No. Totally wrong white for what you've got going on. You need something warmer in tone against your creamy cabinets. I'd skip the notion of some sort of white and pull out a light shade in the countertop that is neither strongly cool nor strongly warm to tie the elements together. On my monitor, your counters look a neutral to slightly warm grey -- certainly warmer than the wall color. Is there is a soft cream shade in there? Or a light, soft *warm* grey? (not a blue-grey). If I'm being honest, the wall paint, while not terrible, is the odd man out. Have you considered changing the wall paint to better coordinate with the cabinets?

I don't care for it, it's too white for the cabinet finish, and I don't think you need a bevel because the cabinets have plenty of detail.

kelleg I will be doing this behind the range top, 30" H x 48" L and wanted to carry the tile on the other 3 walls. Is that what you mean by an accent behind the stove? also, believe it or not there are purplish iridescent glass tiles that change color to whatever is around it. Its showing up as muddy red in the pic. The range top comes tomorrow, and I'm hoping I can get to it -to check out just how red the knobs are,,,its been so long I can't remember. I'm hoping they're more of an orangey red than a red red. as for red accents, I'm looking at amber glass pendants for above the island. only if the reds don't clash. I appreciate your thoughts because I realize this isn't too ordinary.

Gone_South, I saw the picture of the mural before but didn't want to scare you off of it. lol The field tile they used really plays up the gray in the mural and that isn't the look you need. You need to have some of those gray tones in the mural but need a field tile that will stay in the warm tones your kitchen needs. I totally get what you're looking for. At least I think I do. The two murals that you're drawn to are very classic equine. I really hope you find that right mural. If I were in your place, I'd be doing the exact same thing! Found this mosaic of Whistlejacket on eBay. Love the colors in this for your kitchen. Picks up the gray tones you need from your granite and looks like it pulls in the color of your cabinets. Problem is the size. It is 40"x40". But wanted you to see it just to give you ideas. Here's another one that I found on eBay. Also a mosaic and it is 40"x28". Too big but love the colors. I wonder if you could remove enough of the bottom of this mural to make it fit your space. Just a thought. Also found this site called Artwork on Tile and they'll make custom murals from digital photos. You can customize the size as well as the image. They will put your image on ceramic tile, tumbled marble or glass tile. You just need to provide a digital image that is a high enough resolution for the size mural you want. I googled Whistlejack images and there are tons. I thought this one looked like the colors would work with your granite and cabinets. Lots of options and ideas out there. @Katelyn, I love your backsplash! As others have said, once your appliances are in place, it won't stand out so much, but I think it looks great with your walls and the rest of your kitchen. May I ask the color you painted your walls? We are building currently and going with white cabinets/white counters, and a blue/green tile backsplash. Planning on painting the walls SW Sea Salt. So, as you can tell, I am a fan of color and doing something interesting on the backsplash instead of the expected white!

@Chris H I've been advised by some pros on this forum that it's ok to change wood flooring colors on different levels. I always thought cool colors were more formal and preferred them downstairs. But I like to wake up to a happy space and thought I'd like warmer wood flooring upstairs. Others approved. Nobody disapproved. I have personally decided that chocolate- colored floors are what I am after. Hershey's Chocolate bars...not too milky...not super dark chocolate... that's the color I want for my floors. But back to you... So I also have read advice that a staircase can serve as a transition between the two levels. Runners often are recommended. All I ask is that you think about how you will vacuum the runner. So much easier to swish a duster. There used to be little handheld vacuums I liked but they've been replaced with garbage and I can't find one I feel is both safe on a staircase and effective. @palimpsest do you have a link to one?

Agree with others that the white color is not right for the space. I’m not a fan of the bevels, either- you already have a lot going on.

Thanks everyone! Totally agree with everything being said here. I thought that the white was not "off" enough to go with the cupboards.

We also just had the kitchen painted a month ago, but unfortunately the color does not go with the cabinets at all... Should have gone much lighter/warmer grey.

I will try and pick out a grey from the countertop, and select a backsplash based on that. Open to any suggestions/link on exactly what backsplash to go with :)

Shock, your kitchen is beautiful!

I think it would look great with a crackle subway tile. Here is one, a Nabi subway tile in Tundra.
