I would post up a drawn to scale floor plan with everything drawn in and dimensioned. But at this point sounds like you do not have much of a choice.

Yes.. that’s a fact. I’m sick to my stomach. Now I’m down to Should I eat this 2500 and start with a new island or move the island forward and move the lights. My budget is pretty tight.

Did you consider counter depth fridge ? You might get a few inches but still going to be tight.

They are different kinds of fridges. Yours might be regular. The counter depth fridge is not so deep so it doesn't protrude beyond countertop so much

Understand.. this is too much. it’s a regular. That may make a difference. I need 6inches. I’m in a panic and didn’t think about that option.

Now I’m starting to think a peninsula would’ve been better. The island isn’t attached to the floor so it can be removed. However I really don’t want to eat the 2500 dollars

I'd get a CD fridge and call it a day. The range is in the dead end of the U, no through traffic, and you can stand off the the side to remove items from the oven.

A peninsula would have worked better, although it looks as if there's a French door to the right of the DW, so that might not have been an option.

If I spent money on changing anything, it would be to move the MW to the right of the fridge and put in a real vented hood. Moving the MW would also keep some traffic out of the range aisle.

I’m okay with the space between the island and the oven, it’s 36 1/2 inches. I can pull the oven down without stepping to the side. It’s the fridge and the dished washer I’m having trouble with. I can pull them down but it’s tight.

There are only 30" between the fridge and island, and between the DW and island, but does the seating overlap either? If not, I'd leave it as is (but get a CD fridge). There's no reason for you to cross the open DW, since it looks as if dish storage will be to the left of the sink, and since it's an island, anyone can go around when the DW door (or fridge door) is open.

Does the flooring run under the island, so it can just be pulled farther out? If it's going to be better for your state of mind to move it now, and move the lighting, then decide if the hit to the budget is worth it, or live with it a while, and see how it feels.

I agree with the person who said get a counter depth refrigerator and call it done. You may need to have an additional fridge somewhere else because of capacity but honestly I don't like a fridge as deep as yours because things just get shoved to the back.

There are literally thousands of kitchens in my area that have 3 foot work aisles and that's it because of the size of the houses and the allotted size for the kitchens, and although that limits the number of people who can work at one time, they are still function kitchens despite not being the modern ideal. You can always change the island if you find out it really doesn't work for you.

i am no designer by any means, but i agree. get a counter depth refrigerator, French door, freezer on the bottom not a SxS and call it a day.

How deep is the refrigerator from back to front including the doors? Many "counterdepth" refrigerators are as deep as an older regular refrigerator, around 30 inches., which now may approach 36" deep. They are getting ridiculous.

One thing that some people have done is also to reframe the area behind the fridge to create a niche that the fridge can tuck into a little bit. Of course all of these things, including counter depth fridges cost money, it will be a sort of cost-benefit analysis.

The National Kitchen and Bath Association recommends 42 to 48 inches for work aisles. You want to allow enough room for free and safe movement around the island and throughout the kitchen.

I don't have enough space to meet NKBA guidelines, so I decided to pull forward the base cabinets, giving me a 27 deep countertop, which is the starting depth for industrial and restaurant kitchens.

I also dislike interrupting with an island the triangle flow when cooking.

So I am doing a counter height prep table at the end of the kitchen.

Also, for seating space you need close to 24 inches per person. You will be able to comfortably fit 3 persons in your island.

Counter depth refrigerator take cubic ft away, I ended up having another fridge in the garage. Now, I have the 36 inches deep refrigerator and will never go back.

30" wide island, and pull island away from oven to ensure comfortable space to open and get heavy big trays out of the oven.

The first pic of the side of the fridge makes it look as if it's sticking out ap 12", but looking at the last pic I see (I think) that the cabinets above the fridge are not full depth, but standard uppers--12" deep? So, you gain only 3.5" with a CD fridge, but in this kitchen every inch counts. You are in a bad situation, with a brand new kitchen that isn't optimal, and some would consider dysfunctional because of the aisle widths.

Other than reworking the island and omitting seating, I can't think of anything else except your idea to pull it forward, but then the seating is still in conflict with that door to the left of the fridge, and possibly the open French door. It looks as if the seating overhang on the end is already at the limits of the kitchen, and actually overlaps the French door. Can you post a measured layout of the kitchen and dining space, so we can see how much space you have?

Given that the island is still not attached to the floor, I would just remove it

Thank you for being so kind. It’s going to drive me nuts so I’m going to remove it and see what other option I have. Hopefully I can recycle the quartz.

What if you pull it forward about 1 ft or until you get at least 4 ft.

move away from fridge until you get at least 3..75 ft.

Turn sideways the cabinet under island facing the fridge, so that you can sit 2 people on the sink side, 1 person on the fridge side, and 1 at the end.

Also by turning it sideways, the DW will not hit it.

How much space would you end up with in the sink side if you do so.?

The other idea is if you do not have formal dining room, then to remove the cabinet underneath island., make the top a 30 or 32 top, 3 tucked in stools close to work triangle area and 3 high back comfy chairs in the open end.

I personally would not sacrifice fridge cubic feet, unless you can place a counter height fridge under counter next to fridge.

What if you place the island over an upside down area rug so that you can experiment how the people traffic is affected. Move it in a week,and see how you feel, and check how your family feels with few island positions.

I personally had a G shaped kitchen with about 3 ft in front of the fridge, and I hated it. I had to wait my kids to get snacks and close the fridge before I could come into the kitchen. I Would have preferred to have the fridge isle wider than the sink isle.

Look at the images, the ones in where the fridge is shown.

If you were to remove 4 inches of the longest side on the island and add it as a ledge next to the fridge counter, you will gain a built in look, space for 6 people prep table)/island/dining with the ideas shared before, and in addition you will gain countertop next to fridge.
