What do you mean that the mudroom concept is not working??? i would love a mudroom that size and location to put all the gloves, hats, mittens, backpacks, and activity equipment. You mentioned that you want seating at the front window - isn‘t that a built in bench in your plan? It looks like you have a pantry already next to your fridge, so I am confused about that comment. Is it a walk in pantry that you want? There seems to be room to take up some of the mudroom. There are a few tweaks I would make to this plan, but overall, I think it works well. i would add a prep sink to the island, increase the size of the kitchen window, make the doorway between the entry and living room smaller, increase the size of the doorway between the living room and dining room, and possibly move the refrigerator, so that it leftmost of the tall cabinets. The part that is a bit awkward is the powder room - perhaps that could be moved to rhe mudroom area.

I'd keep one of the stub walls and reposition the other, to isolate the PR door from the kitchen and DR. Shallow storage cabinets could be added on each side of the PR door, with more storage on the kitchen wall (maybe for dishes or china). Are those baseboard heaters? Why remove one of the DH windows?

At 11'11" you don't have space for an island with standard depth cabinets and seating. If you turn the mudroom into a breakfast nook, you can skip the seating and have a working island, OR, use 18" deep cabinets under the island to add more space to the traffic aisle behind. Even using 18" deep cabinets on the island, if you add seating you'll have only 41" for traffic--NKBA recommends a minimum of 15" seating overhang, with 44" behind for walking by, or 36" for sliding by. Keep in mind that the front overhang (at least 1") and the back cover panel will add to the depth of the island.

I agree with Andrea C. about the prep sink on the island. You'll have an efficient work triangle, and the separate clean-up zone will make it easier for helpers to load or unload the DW, or gather dishes to set the table, without entering the prep/cooking zones.

The problem with the mudroom you show is that it has a lot of floor space, but no utility. It is just functioning as a hallway.

Is your garage to the right of the kitchen or in the basement?

You seem to be ending up with a lot of unused transition spaces between rooms, but your house isn't that big that you would want to waste all that space.

Correct- I don’t see it as a functional mudroom- it would be a weird hallway. I need a functioning kitchen with storage for a family of four. That door to the right would be the garage access. This photo is the current set up of the right side of the house.

You will keep racking your brain and have subpar solutions if you force an island into a shallow center hall colonial layout. The only way to fit an island and have the kitchen be a part of the Dining/Family is to move the Kitchen or stair.
