building an Ark! the Houston flooding
Comments (23)Nita would be awesome for you to come hey we can sure do one when ever you can make it, no reason we can't do it more than once as far as I am concerned. Well guess what is happening right this very moment big big rain drops hitting the skylight above my head and it is going to be another downpour the sky has just opened up. big thunderboomers too. At least yesterday we had a little bit of a break and my yard water did go down some, but Cypress creek behind us came up even higher yesterday many of the areas we tried to drive to were flooded, much too close for comfort! These 2 fronts are hung right over us and the area that is between the fronts is what is causing this mess, there is some kind of circular rotation happening causing it. And until something strong comes through and breaks that darn cycle we are trapped under it. That happens often when the moisture off the Gulf hits a front from the West and bam we get the resultant collision. And to make matters worse we did not get to the grocery store yesterday! Good thing my pantry has lots of beans and soup mix in it....See MoreTropical storm in Panama City Beach
Comments (10)as a tourist in FL i would not stay, 50-60 mph winds to us are nothing but you might not think so... just be forewarned tourists always get swept aside in hurricanes/tropical storms in getting help, they always feel forgotten because businesses & residents come first in getting help. i live in orlando and believe me there were no happy tourists in 2004 aug-oct w/ 3 hurricanes, they complained loudly but it's off season for a reason. i'm in seminole co and have racked up just under 35" of rain since tues, 15" of that just since midnight last night. flooding is everywhere, wide spread power outages, lots of tree damage thou nothing like a hurricane. after 4 days of fay i'd say it might be better to leave ahead of time or risk being w/o power and stuck because of flooding. the only death in the central fl area was a tourist. they were in the water after a zillion warnings not to, waist deep only, the wife was swept out in a rip current. ~ liz...See MoreTropical storm Bill on its way.
Comments (10)Ya I dont expect a lot of wind but there are small chances of little spin ups. You are correct dave. The river is the highest I have seen since I was a kid back in the 80's when it flooded. I rode my bike along the bank last night. Its a good 10' from cresting so I dont think this event will flood much downstream from Keystone Lake. Now if it goes more northwest over the Lakes watershed we could have a big problem. The lake currently is about 21' above normal so they are letting water out like crazy. Most of the area Lakes are way above normal. Some in the southwest part of the state are 30' or more above....See MoreTropical storm warnings - Florida.
Comments (24)Piece of cake so far. We had worse than this in Illinois. I just checked the rain gauge that is in the middle of the yard (no trees nearby) and only 1.25" of rain since 6 a.m. Virtually no wind. I looked at the radar and those folks in Florida's panhandle (or the great bend or something like that) are getting the worst of it. We live in a 55+ community and I got a robo-call indicating that all services ceased at noon (community rules). Crap! I was gonna go to their library and sort books alphabetically. It's a mess there....See MoreCherryfizz
