Should we repaint cabinets?
Comments (45)I had that problem with the Murphy's Oil Soap used on a wood floor. The finish on the floor was old shellac, which I was just going to add a coat to, since it was ok most everywhere, but worn in a few spots. The Murphy's caused an orange-peel effect with the new coat of shellac that I lived with for 14 years, since it did not bother me. I was aware at the time that if I had done a wipe-down with mineral spirits before using shellac, the problem would not have occurred, but since I was limited in resources, both human and monetary, I was stuck. I took my chances and I lived with orange peel floors. My nearsightedness probably kept it from bothering me, LOL. I believe I remember Gibby3000 saying she tried the finish in an unseen area, first. One thing about all those HGTV shows is that they make re-doing cabinets look easy. The sanding of the old finish, any surface filling, the sanding between coats, and any finish coats are minimized. It is a HUGE undertaking. I repainted slab doored cabs once. I would not consider doing ones with molding or panels. If you do it wrong, it will eventually peel. Is that how Shabby Chic became popular? Funny, my current cabs that the PO painted do not look chic - just shabby....See MoreAndersen dark bronze or black for interior windows?
Comments (39)I finally decided on the black Andersen casement window for my home, which probably won’t be installed until March due to production delays. I originally went with the bronze but the more pics of both, bronze and black color windows I looked at, the more convinced i became of going with the black since it is a neutral. The black also looks really great against the brick. can’t wait for their arrival....See MorePella Proline Black Exterior Window/ White Interior Window - Help!!!
Comments (34)do you have window coverings? And do you love them? What brand did you go with? House looks great. I read the link someone posted and brought up the black interior and decorating. I was thinking of just doing all black in the living areas and black out with white inside in the sleeping areas. Thanks for the quick response! :) Would love to see more pics of your house. Any idea what your exterior brand and color are?...See MoreShould we paint the interior trim black?
Comments (15)Difficult to paint and costly if done correctly. If you have white toned walls there is ZERO room for error when doing black trim. Every single line shows and must be dead on. Its like black caulk on a white tile. It also doesn't cover like you think it would especially with a semi gloss so more coats and sanding between coats. If you choose a black tomes paint go with an eggshell sheen as it doesn't show defects as much. I would save it for a feature such as a bookcase and then paint rest of trim exact color as walls only in a higher sheen. It gives a clean modern look. We do this all the time and everyone swears the molding are a different color than the walls as the sheen alters the color perception....See MoreJulie Schmooley
