Comments (5)What do you mean by "digging out"? If you're actually talking about digging out a dirt floor cellar ... definitely rethink that. Do you have a garage or even a carport you could enclose or an unused bedroom you might remodel instead? Do you have room on your lot to build a screened porch now that could become an enclosed sun porch later?...See MoreDFW House remodeling / renovation: do it or not
Comments (14)What I would do is hire an independent appraiser to get an idea of the fair market value of the house in move in condition. And I would hire a good inspector to get a better idea of the scope of the repairs needed. With that info, you can get ball park figures for the repairs/ replacements, add the asking price. That will give you an idea if it makes sense to pursue the property. 8 months on the market makes me think it could be over-priced. Or about break-even factoring in the repairs regarding fair mkt. value and just not worth the hassles of dealing with contractors, delays, general frustration, paying taxes on a property for months & not being able to live in it......See MoreLight Kitchen Remodel/Renovation
Comments (8)You have a difficult space that appears to have a lot of functional challenges. I wouldn't recommend you re-do your countertops, they look fine. What you need is storage. I'd pull out the desk and put a full height storage cabinet there. I don't think it needs to be a "kitchen" cabinet. I think an ikea pax wardrobe cabinet with pull out shelves and drawers would likely work really well in that spot and come in at a great price point for you. It would be about the same depth as the desk and you could trim it out around the bottom to cover any problems with the floor. I'd consider the same type of tall cabinet for where you currently have the wire shelving. Pax comes in a shallow model as well and comes in 20, 30, or 40 inch wide varieties. Other ikea cabinet or storage options may work for you as well. Live with the after-market mix-match for a while until you've saved the money to do a full gut. I wouldn't put real investment into the floor plan that you have now....See MoreSharon Hymen
