pls help w/ wall & floor colors
Comments (6)thanks, blondelle, for the input! The issue with the vanity color is that all three baths, kitchen, and living room are completely done with these same cabinets and same color. I agree with you that a dark vanity and travertine-style floor would really update the bath, but then would the bath still have continuity with the rest of the house (dated as it may be)? Likely the correct answer is "update the rest of the house" LOL so maybe I need to wrap my head around refinishing at least *some* of the cabinets. also, we have tile throughout the rest of the house and DH is really wanting a more comfortable surface. But I really don't want to redo this bath ever again so I'll see about finding some really thin tile to show DH. msgreatdeals, it seems that alot of people have a dark vanity with a light countertop or vice versa, with the floor matching either depending on the mood you're trying to evoke. And if you already have one bath with a white vanity and the same floor, the dark vanity could be used to differentiate the two baths. cheers...See Moregranite installed yesterday-opinion on cabinet colors
Comments (8)I know I'm in the minority around here, but I hate to see a lovely wood painted. I think perhaps the reason it appears to blend better is that it matches the white appliances. If you have any plans to replace them with non-white appliances sometime in the future i wouldn't paint the cabinets. I would suggest looking at a different wall paint color to help pull the look together. You can always paint the cabinets later, but once they are done they are done. Also, new hardware and perhaps some crown moulding at the top would really give it a finished look. I added crown and dentil to the tops of my existing cabinets and it's amazing how much it changed their appearance. Best of luck! I know it's hard. If you take your time you will find the look that is right for you!...See MoreHardware change for 80's oak cabinets
Comments (19)I actually think the cabinets, floor, countertop and ORB hardware go very nicely together. Your backsplash looks pretty new and is lovely, so you can ignore this suggestion, but I think that it is the one element that could be tweaked a little to tie everything together better. Check out this gorgeous kitchen from Pepper Design Blog -- her cabinets and countertops are very similar to yours, and she also has dark hardware. Adding a green/grey glass backsplash and re-grouting your floors with a dark gray grout might look really nice. One of the many great things about the PDB kitchen is that the green tones in the backsplash give the orange cabinets a modern and Spanish-style look.
