Need to move a light switch
I'm getting ready to have a new kitchen put in. I want to enclose my fridge by adding panels on each side and having the cabinet on the top come out further over the fridge, however there is a light switch behind the fridge that needs to be moved in order to do this. Does anyone have any ideas on moving this light switch possibly to the side panel that will be on the outside of my fridge? OR any other suggestions on how I could make this work??
The person putting in the cabinets doesn't know what to do.... Thanks all

Comments (2)Permitting issues are highly local. I suspect however in most places the whole scope of the work (moving walls, wiring) requires a permit. How hard of a deal with this is purely one of access. You're going to have to relocate the wire and depending on the situation it may be that you end up pulling a new wire. As for the light, is this a clothes closet? The answer depends on which wall it's only 9" from, but I assume it's not the one with the door, so yes it will have to be moved. Comments (1)@jessicabaskerville, Given the extra ceiling height, your open area plan, and overall island size I suggest using 3 pendants of the size you're currently considering. See attached image for approximate layout. Keep the height so anyone standing at the island can see through to other spaces un-obstructed by the base of the pendants. The island pendants should be on a separate dimmer for better overall control of kitchen lighting. Also, be careful of your bulb choice since bare bulbs will produce some glare (another reason to use a separate dimmer). You have your light switches on the inside of a bathroom? Can't do that around here. Near water and all that, and someone probably figures it would be such fun for siblings to turn off the light on each other. talked about putting towel hooks around the corner by the toilet Hm, can do, depends. You don't want it too close, brushing up on the toilet each time you swish it past. Also you need something immediately on exiting the shower, so this can work, but not alone. In addition to towels around the window, you could have hooks on the back of the door - if you're fine with that? Comments (17)I would always go with side-by-side, with appliances directly on the floor (not elevated). Easier for servicing, as has been said. But, just as important, I cannot understand how anyone can reach the controls on the upper stacked appliance. They would be 80” above the floor. And getting clothes out from the rear or the top of the upper appliance chamber would also be impossible. Can someone who has a stacked arrangement tell me how any of this is possible? Do you have to use a step stool? As for your particular situation, I would enlarge the doorway opening at left and at right so that the washer door can be fully opened. (You may need to move the light switches, which should not be difficult.) And I would put a wall-hung cabinet above the W&D for storage. Lastly, do you really need doors on that alcove? The whole garage space is conditioned, so it should have a reasonably tight envelope (i.e., the dust should be no worse than inside a house)....See Morelucky998877

I have a wireless switch in my bathroom and love it. The blue box is the part that gets hard wired to the old switch. Once it's done it never needs to be touched again, so it's fine if it's blocked behind a fridge. The switch is battery operated, but mine has not needed to be changed yet, and I've had it for 4 years. there are versions for 3 way switches and dimmers as well.
If you know somebody who's comfortable with home wiring, it's totally worth it at $114. WAY less than an electrician and you won't have to repair drywall damage afterwards. But if you need to hire an electrician to put this in for you, you may as well have them just move the switch the correct way.
