I am in zone 8b and have some in a southern exposure that gets 7 hrs a day of hot sun. It does great! It is planted in good top soil on top of a plastic weed barrier. It gets a bit tattered in the winter but at least for me, does not get all brown. In the spring before new growth comes out, I clip off the old growth. I also have some regular non-varigated liriope. I find the varigated liorpe much more interested. Its bright greenish yellow color really looks great with something dark red nearby - I have loropetalum. I also like the way it looks with bengal tiger cannas nearby. Hope this helps!

Initially, I was very disappointed with this variegated liriope. . .until I discovered that it takes a couple seasons to settle in and really flourish - now, I can't get enough of it! And, Karen, you're right about the Carex (I assume you're referring to "Ice Dance", which looks like a larger version of the variegated Liriope) - edited back to just on clump, right near a water faucett so it can get the constant water it seems to demand, Kevin - I brought my friend in Vermont (z. 4) a clump of my variegated Lirope, which we tried planting in the midst of three good-sized rocks, to protect the root zone, in partial shade. . .it's been two years and counting, with one standard Vermont winter (heavy!) and one milder (last year). . .give it a try! Deb, That's a good idea but the tree thing wouldn't work for me because I have it as a border. fawn- I think those are nice but I also saw a silver mist mondo grass. I think that's what it was. My hedges are a dark green so I would want something lighter to contrast. Don't you think?

Thanks for the feedback. I can't wait to dress up that corner because, again, I have a yard full of shade! I planted a small knock out rose already, it's hard to see in the picture. I don't have that much time to devote to it right now so I'm having to work on it as I can. Hopefully by this time next year it will at least not look so drab and pitiful. Unfortunately I don't have permission to get rid of the honeysuckle, or the fence, for that matter. Anyway, I like the idea of salvia and verbena, but I'm not crazy about daylilies there for some reason. A friend mentioned loropetalum, but I'm not sure about that either. It won't be hard to make it look better than it does now, but I do want to plant things that go well together, so I appreciate your ideas.
