The $99 AquaSource from Lowe's is the best-kept secret in the plumbing industry. It meets or exceeds the performance of any of the non-pressure-assisted toilets, including American Standard, Kohler, and, yes (gasp), even Toto. It's a quality product with the only complaints being about the included seat. I own one and have installed at least a half-dozen for friends and family members and they are all extremely happy. It is also available in Biscuit for $165. Someone posted above about color comparison. Toto's Sedona Beige matches American Standard's Linen and Kohler's Biscuit.

Cost to install -- It should only take a good plumber about an hour to install so call around and ask what their hourly rate is. If you do it DIY be sure to buy a commode that comes with everything. We put in American Standard Colony in all our new homes. A very good dependable commode. When I buy them from my supply house, I have to buy the commode, the tank, the supply line, the bolts, the wax seal all separate. You can buy it all as a kit at Home Depot or Lowe's that will have everything except the supply line. I would recommend buying a quick connect hose for that also.

Bummer. I used to religiously get on here and point folks toward my favorite research source. Ten responses and no one's pointed out the best place to look: CA Urban Water Conservation Council's MaP testing results! Between my house and my parents, we have 4 Totos. One Drake, an Ultimate, an Ultramax, and an Eco Drake. I really like them, but my Ultimate (oldest) is my least favorite b/c I have actually gotten it to clog several times. They range in age from 8 years down to ~2 years. The 1.28gpf Eco Drake is really slick with it's dual-cyclone flush (only 2 big rim holes that start a whirl). Many other manufacturers have caught up to Toto's performance, but you should do your research to see if they tested well. I've also specified some commercial models for construction projects. One project got 1.28-gpf American Standards that tested well, but I have my doubts having seen them flush in person. We may replace 5 in my office space soon, and the commercial Toto's are at the top of the list. If they made a commercial version with the dual cyclone, there wouldn't be anyone else on that list. I also am a fan of an American Standard toilet, after terrible experiences with Kohler toilets and their terrible Customer Service. I got my toilet from Lowes for about $230. Crevice free sides and front toilet with a larger than normal flapper valve - makes for much greater flushing capacity. The description does not state so, but it is a dual flush device... more water for solid waste less for liquid waste. Inexpensive, clean appearance, could "flush a cat." lol American Standard Model #: 2514.101.020
