No buds on ‘Heavenly Blue’ morning glory

I know this question has been asked a thousand times before but I may have a different twist on it. I have three trellises’ worth of gorgeous healthy leaves but no buds at all from three or four morning glory seedlings I started indoors. I did plant them out pretty late, like mid or late May, and that may be part of the problem, but they sure have caught up in terms of their leaves. But I am wondering if I dug too much compost in the area when I planted them, as I know mg’s don’t care for rich soil. The thing I’m surprised about is that I thought the phenomenon of ”all leaves and no flowers” comes specifically from there being too much nitrogen in the soil rather than having too much organic matter (the compost was almost entirely all leaves). I haven’t fertilized at all. I know it’s still early in the season and maybe I’ll see some buds and flowers later and will jump for joy if I do, but I don’t remember in previous years seeing such a volume of leaves without buds.
