Please no red or blue trim anywhere . I would remove the stone and replace that with siding IMO stone and brick do not work together. As for the rest when you say modern what exactly are you thinking? I am not sure what you mean by the shed since the carport does not appear to be very large as it is. Do you have a back tard ? If so then I would forgo the seating in the carport and if you need storage then rdo that space to be storage only.As it is now there is no way to drive a car inthere anyway so I would remove it add your storage and remove the drive way in front of it too .You mention siding i don't see any except for a tiny bit above the garage doors . I would look at maybe

Patricia, thank you. The stone has to stay as we just did it unfortunately. The carport we were thinking of using for storage but with a small front covered seating area as we don’t have that by our front door. There is siding above the garage and the upper sides of the house. Just hoping for some colour advice on windows, door, garage doors and the siding. I’m not a fan of the creamy yellow everywhere.

I would not paint the front or garage doors black. I think it's the wrong color for the roof, bricks, stone, ... all of it. I prefer white for the garage doors, window trim, etc. Alternatively, it's often suggested to paint the garage doors the same color as the body of the house, to make them recede rather than stand out. In your case, that would be the color of your brick. I think that a lighter front door color than what you have would make it more visible and I'd probably choose a color from the stone.

eta: I do not see the creamy yellow that you speak of, and your roof looks grey, so maybe your photo isn't showing true to color on my monitor.

Paint the garage doors the same color, or a dull-ish blending color, as the house - no reason to highlight them with a different color. They’re garage doors for goodness sakes, and not very fancy ones. Or, install new wood doors.

Paint the eavestroughs to blend with the house too. They’re not a design feature (unless, of course, you’re going to spring for real copper gutters).

Your brick looks nice and in good shape. I like it.

Party_music50 thank you. The garage doors, windows and eavestroughs are all a creamy yellow colour which I hate. Thanks for the suggestions. I have considered white for the windows so it may happen.

Are those vinyl windows? If they are vinyl, painting them any dark color is a no-no. Because dark colors absorb heat rather than reflect it and the vinyl will distort.

Remember that your windows are surrounded by both the brick and stone, so you’ll want a color that works well with both. Various color mockups like tozmo did would probably help you a lot.

I'm not a fan of black windows so maybe I'm biased so I gave it a try on your house. The only color I played with was black (my cut and paste and power point skills are limited) but personally, I think it's a bit harsh. Maybe a dark brown would work but I don't like the garage doors dark at all. In the lighter color, it balances the stonework. Otherwise there is nothing to tie to the dark garage doors. It makes that side of the house look very heavy. If you paint them a color that pulls out the stone colors, then it's cohesive and balanced. But that's just my opinion. It's your house, do what you love.

Evestroughs should fade away so pick a shade that works best. If windows are in fine shape, I’d spend the money on the carport and garage (vinyl can’t be painted).

With garage being so prominent and carport feeling like an afterthought, I’d suggest enhancing both by replacing pillars and garage doors. The front door’s color can be decided last, after the rest is figured out.

In regards to what you do inside carport, hard to comment on. Do what works for you visually and practically.

Would definitely recommend new garage doors with lites (glass) somewhere in them - top or perhaps side. Garage doors with horizontal wood patterning might modernize your house. Painting your brick should help modernize also if you are willing to do that. Painted brick might lessen the impact of the stone veneer. I love the tree at the corner of you house but it's rather large and covers the house view from the street. Not sure I would recommend removing but perhaps you could have it trimmed back. Your landscaping is ok but could use some sprucing up and evening out. Good luck!

Thanks Norwood architects do you have any photo suggestions/ colours in mind for the garage doors? I’ve thought of painting the brick but it scares me a bit. Style wise and longevity. And I agree re the landscaping for sure. I do want a more modern look as well. We just moved here in October and are working with the perennials that we’re here currently. What would you add/ remove? I was thinking a skinny tree in between the two front windows and maybe adding some boxwoods somewhere?!

Liked @Norwood Architects suggestion of horizontal wood patterning on the garage doors. Found these doors. Not crazy about the color but I think the design modernizes the look. BTW, your house is modern design but the true modern design definition i.e. no ornamentation, straight lines, etc. And for what it's worth, I think the brick adds interest with the alternating brick placement. Painting it will remove that detail. Don't get sucked into trendy and muck up the design.

Thanks tozmo1 I agree with you. I prefer timeless. I do love the painted brick work but it would eventually run its course I fear. I will definitely be sticking to the brick/stone we have currently.
I do like this garage option so will look for different tones/colours to see what works best.

Had some time for some copy and pasting. Here’s what I had in mind. Black windows, black garage, new wood front door (in a lighter wood colour to work better with our stone) and a wood beam added to the carport with a black shed added under. One photo has under window planters, the other doesn’t.
What do you all think? Does this work?

You should heed ci_lantro’s warning about not painting the light-colored vinyl a dark color because it can cause it to warp.

I'm not a fan of the black trend on almost everything. It looks good on some windows, but you don't have any other dark to balance it out. Painting the garage doors IMO, makes them unattractive. I had dark brown garage doors when I bought my house and a friend said they look like beady angry eyes. So maybe that tainted me for life against dark contrasting garage doors.

What climate are you in? If it's a warm one the black will create really hot spaces behind them.

I like that. I wouldn't do stark white but a white with some beige in it would be nice. You also asked about window boxes. I really like them. I had them until I renovated my house and the windows changed and the boxes didn't fit. They were gorgeous in the summer. Think about the winter though, what would you do? Maybe remove them for the winter.

I did love the window boxes and hanging baskets on Victoria Island.

Meant Victoria on Vancouver Island but I think you knew that. :-) You could always do plastic poinsettias. I have a neighbor who does fake flowers all year long. Kinda hokey when you know it but looks good from a distance. A long distance lol. Post pics when you decide and are done.

Re window boxes, I'm in z5 so they're planted from the end of May until the frost kills them (usually Sep or Oct). One year I decided to fill them with stems of silk mums for autumn, then switch to silk poinsettias right after Thanksgiving. I didn't anticipate the mums being frozen solid in the soil until late April. LOL!!! Fwiw, I now use fresh cut evergreens for my window boxes in the winter and love the look.
