granite counter-top seams ... are we being too picky?
Comments (44)These are my pics of my countertops placed Friday June 22, 2018. I cried looking at these seams. It looks so cheap. Fabricator explains that's the way it comes. I explained that I shouldn't be able to see the seams so clearly. It looks so unprofessional. They ended up taking them back to their warehouse. In hopes they say if it is quality control will try and fix it just to make it look better. Otherwise I will have to pay an additional fee for them to come out again to install. I just don't know what to do and if still looks the same. This is the first time I've replaced my counters in 24 years. I don't and can't live with it. looking at this for another 24 years. It looks so cheap and it really was not it's a lot of money to me. I hope fingers crossed that they will fix this problem. They never told me that there would be such seams. I thought the edges were done by a machine and it would be all one piece. I have read up on this and now understand there are seams. But now I do know that they should not look like this. If they are good fabricator you shouldn't be able to see them so clearly. I will find out next week what happens....See MoreFinally I have counter tops
Comments (12)Thanks everyone :) The problem is not exactly in the corner. There is a seam in the L. One side of the seam is lighter than the other. I noticed it the minute I walked in there. It came from 2 different slabs of Quartz. The Quartz is Cambria Canterbury. It was the first thing I picked out for the kitchen. The paint color is BM Barley Harvest. It is funny how it changes color a bit with the light and different times of the day. I love it. How I picked my paint color... picture this... 4 graphic designers standing around a computer monitor, holding up a sample of the counter top and cabinets, picking colors. When we found this one, all of us said "that's it!" at the same time. lol They put my Faucet in today. So I have got running water in there now! Thanks again ya'll...See MoreIs this an acceptable granite counter repair?
Comments (23)jannicone, I have River White. I think it's very similar to Glacier White but Glacier White wasn't available anywhere I looked around here (Philadelphia suburbs). Maybe it's a regional naming difference? Thank you everyone for the reassurance. My mom stopped by to see the new counters today and tried to find the spot without me pointing it out and could not. The fabricator did come back today and said if he added gray to the repair he thought it would stand out too much. After we all stared at it for a few minutes, we all agreed to just leave it. I'm sure we will accumulate more offensive chips or scratches or stains in the future so I'll try to save my belly aching for that. Yes, I would have expected a heads up from the installers but can't change that. It's a lot of money and expectations can run away from you with stuff like this. I do have to remind myself that it is a natural stone and that's what happens to it sometimes. At the end of the day, I got an amazing deal and love the counters overall. Thanks again!...See MoreDo not buy counter tops from Home Depot.
Comments (25)Joseph Corlett, LLC: Thanks - I don't know how much more "Cage Rattlin" I can do. Did the woman in your reference have to go to court to get relief? Cosetino/Silestone's (The main company is in Mexico) customer Service manager Mr. Alejandro has not responded to repeated queries. I thought about having him served with a subpoena to get him into court but I am not sure how these things work - like, do I have to pay him transportation costs and expenses to appear in court? Regarding your question about Lowes - I try to do business with them instead of Home Depot and the only thing I know about them relative to my counter top issue is that they also use this same counter top fabricator. Also- Thanks for the Zodiac reference. In addition to the Zodiac specification that you referenced, I have also found specifications from Silestone, Wilsonart, CeasarStone, Viatera, and Cambria that support my contention that there is an industry standard tolerance. I am expecting the defendant to claim that there is no applicable specification for quartz counter tops just as he did at the first trial. I also filed a complaint with the MHIC and I also filed an appeal in small claims court - I am waiting for those hearings to be scheduled. I have low expectations of success but I will exercise all the available options. Thanks for the comments....See MoreAhmed Sousa
