Yes I understand the chairs can be bought separately. Is there a specific style you like? Have you seen these at Crate and Barrel. Really pretty and could could update your space I love pottery barn chairs too. They are made solid and sturdy. They worked for us when our children were small.

If this is your daily dining area, I wouldn't use a rug- will be hard to move the bench out for seating (chairs too but they are a little easier depending on rug pile). I think benches are much nicer in concept than practical if you have adults sitting in those areas. Is adjoining areas more transitional/traditional or more rustic. The table and bench look well-made, but they don't seem to quite fit with the more formal walls. BUT, if keeping, I like the simple upholstered cream/linen chairs.

I am going to paint the walls in both rooms Wind’s Breath colour. You’re correct, I bought the painting and rugs at Homesense to match, thinking they were more contemporary. I am an amateur trying to learn. This is why I appreciate everyone’s suggestions so much! I tried to find slip covers for my sofa and loveseat but failed. They were all stretchy spandex-polyester and looked cheap. Any suggestions on where I can buy slipcovers that look like upholstered furniture in Canada? I was originally looking for off-white slip covers, although I wonder if this will look washed out with Wind’s Breath colour on the walls. Any suggestions on coffee tables?

You don't say how many people normally sit at the dining table, but frankly I like grandma's cabinet more than the dining set. People mix woods all the time and it's not easy to strike a balance. Maybe there's just too much wood going on with floor, door, and furniture..... What should be the star of the dining space? Grandma's cabinet and the pretty light fixture! But neither seems to stand out with all the other stuff going on. Consider removing the stuff on top of grandma's cabinet, remove the console and lower the items on the wall there to eye level. The space will breathe better and not be so busy, but see if you like the difference. Another possible thought would be to paint the door same color as the trim so it's not so prominent next to grandma's cabinet.
