Great Room Fireplace TV dilemma...
Comments (10)Your sketch (or your builder's) has three separate, individual and unrelated elements: the walls, the fireplace and the casework for the TV. Nothing dominates--everything competes visually. Dominance is one principle for good design. Cpartist's sketch is much more unified: fireplace and casework are unified together and dominate the wall, leaving only a small portion of the wall visible. For increased dominance and unity, you might consider some type of fascia or crown molding which is in keeping with your house architecture. You could align it and run it full-width, across the top of the door and all casework. An option for the heavy-appearing masonry above the mantle would be to use wood paneling, finished to match your casework. In choosing your design and finishes don't forget to coordinate the door and frame to the left, if there is one. As for the TV, I'm not sure how far away the kitchen actually is from the TV location, but even if you can adequately see the video, I'm not sure you will be able to hear the audio, unless you have wired speakers in the kitchen. What are the chances of a well located and designed TV in the kitchen--perhaps a flip down flat screen under an upper cabinet? Comments (22)I think the sectional is just too bulky for the room.. would it be that bad to leave the TV over the fireplace? what are the actual room dimensions? If you hang the tv on the short wall you need to have a way to watch without straining your neck.. what is the width of the room from fireplace (with the hearth) to the wall? option 1 - get rid of the sectional (yes it is comfy but bulky) and put a sofa facing fireplace, get 2 swivel chairs (recliners or not) to either face the tv on short wall or swing around and face the 'people' sitting on the sofa and a narrow ottoman for additional seating.. sketch the room on grid paper with as exact dimensions as you can.. option 2 - leave the TV above the fireplace but i would still replace the sectional with a sofa and chairs so you have more walk through space and the ability to move the chairs if you need to....See MorePlacing artwork above off centered TV
Comments (31)I like the clock much better than the script art. And I like the wall without the script much better. It hasn't been very long, maybe give yourself some more time to get used to the simpler wall? Otherwise, maybe put this clock, or a larger one on the wall above the tv and centered with the peak. I feel like something round like a clock will not look as off when centered as a square or rectangular piece. Then you would need to find something else for the fireplace....See MoreBalancing Large TV off center to fireplace?
Comments (3)Would you be able to add more images of the entire room so we can see if this is the only correct place for the TV? Perhaps there is another place in the room for it and it would work on an articulating arm?...See MoreTracey Woods
