Overall, I don’t really see a two toned style working well with your sofa plus fabrication, etc. I think it could possibly make your sofa look more like outdoor furniture, and I am not sure that is the look you are going for. I think a solid gold color in a velvet might possibly look rich and be interesting with the blue; but I don’t think that is your color preference or overall style. For leather or leather type fabric, I think this color could be a possibility.

Does everyone in your household have issues with the current fabric? It might just be easier to sit on some throws.

@jd I recieved it in spring and it's still like this, I'm not sure if that's enough time or not 🤔 I wonder though! Maybe I'll see if others have bought this couch and the problem got better

@freedomplace1 thanks so much for all the suggestions! I like the chenille but it looks like it'd feel weird but I can find in my city and try. That decoratorbest looks pretty good though. It's just my home and my friends and family don't care or really notice but I sit on it every day and paid for it so it's in my head every time I sit lol I just bought the couch and feel silly sitting on throws instead of the couch I just paid for. Call me anal lol

I guess a photo might have been helpful a bit. I was thinking of combing those 2 couches like this one but in a darker grey like a slate grey (leather or fabric) any thoughts on that?

The styling could potentially work. The seat cushions shown in your example above don’t have as much loft as your current seat cushions, so that might be something to consider. It is a sleek look, but would not work the same with the loft that you currently have. Having some tufting works style-wise, I think, which is why I showed this one, above.

So you would basically be looking at a combination of this color, in leather + the blue fabric.

And then take into consideration that your current carpet color appears to be along these lines:

Have you complained to the retailer? If you have this problem others would have too.

Yeah maybe call the retailer and ask if it can be recovered since it’s “defective.” It could work

@freedomplace1 that's great advice thank you! The cushions are foam with a goose down top and pile pretty fast so I flip often. Do you think tufting would cause the down to get piled in between the tufts and hard to get out? Honestly I flip often I'm considering removing the down fml lol. What about a tighter cushion? The perimeter height of the seat cushions is about 6in, would a 5 or 4 tighten the loft and keep a sleek look? Just a thought. *I just googled tufting pros and it keeps things from needing to be flipped as often so I'll probably definitely do this lol*

As for the back cushions, the photo I showed of the 2 tone has no tufting on the backs, which I kind like the difference. But tufting means I don't have to fluff as often so again, much just do it lol

Yes the color of that sofas base is the exact color! The carpet is old and needs to change so I'll attack that at a later date with you 😜

@J D @houssaon it was a custom order so no returns and since I chose the fabric, it's all on me. They did give me 20% my next order which I guess is kinda nice lol

A good upholsterer - and one who really understands the style you are going for. You are getting ready to spend a lot of money, again - so consult with pro upholsterer(s).

And also, consider the comfort factor. If you like a sofa that you can sink into, the loftier pillows like you have now (minus the attacks on your clothes, of course) may be preferable to flatter and firmer cushions. Or maybe the current cushions would be more comfortable for the other folks in your house.

Also consider - as @J D suggested, this fabric may settle down with time. So in the meantime, maybe instead of rushing to reupholster - what about getting yourself a fabulous recliner? If you have room for it, could be nice.

I'm just doing the cushions so I can save as much money as possible and likely using a synthetic leather, a local company uses makes this commercial grade poly synthetic that is incredible and super cheap. My old couch (at the top) was that product and it blew my mind the wear and tear it could endure lol obviously its not identical to leather but it had a great feel to it and look. I hate that I hate sitting on my couch 🤣 ya maybe I'll wait a little longer before I jump the gun. Who knows really. But I like the idea of tufting (based on what Google says). The loft looks comfy and is but I've had tufted and it really wasn't too bad and I'm sure it'll be even better with how fat these cushions are.

I don't have the room for a recliner yet but the plan is to have a house with even space for an accent chair. Maybe one day!

So just to sum up, that slate colour in leather (or fabric) is passable on the couch? Talk to a professional about tuft vs loft. Be patient and see about if the fabric calms down. Yes?

As a vegan, I only use faux leather, personally - for furnishings, etc.; and I know there are a lot of nice options out there these days. Everyone doesn’t want synthetic, but I recommend it, when I can. A dilemma poster here on Houzz recently purchased these wood and vegan leather barstools I recommended.

The slate color should work. I really like this design ”rule” :)
