Great expectations...great dissapointments
Comments (33)Get good color on A. Hubrictii here. Mine tends to flop so I have to stake it a bit. If it didn't get color in fall, I would shovel prune it. It's one of the main reasons I planted it and does look rather weedy. Tried RBIAT again from seed this year. Actually did get one to live and planted it. It is about 2 little stems and it's totally lost in the garden. Blooming and very pretty if I crawl on the ground to find it! My blue chip BB always blooms much later and for a long time. Eclectic, do you see any buds? It actually seems even later this year....See MoreGreat Expectations grrrrrrrrrr
Comments (23)It is always difficult to raise small plants. I buy multi-eye plants mostly and have no problems with my two GEs, which I have now since 2009. They are planted in morning sun, not deep, not wet. One of them gets a little afternoon sun and is brighter. I just could not resist and bought three beautiful GEs from HD at $4.25 each, also 2 or 3 eyes each. Two are doubled up, are presently in pots, will place them in spots at the fence. I do not like to place hostas in the sun, mine always burn because I can not afford $ and time wise to water them constantly. Life is easier in some shade, also for humans. Have a good one! Comments (3)Jon, yours are glowing so bright and beautiful! I thought I'd see what mine was doing... Yup, starting to barely unfurl - it really liked the sunshine today! I really like yours - thanks for spreading the glow. :-)...See MoreObservations on Growing Great Expectations
Comments (14)Interest stuff...... I've never had a problem with this one. I've had 2. 1 I left at my old house it was doing fine. Afternoon sun from 3 to about 6 or 7. It was slow but steadily increased for the 3 years I had it. Currently: I bought a 1 liter 3 division plant last year, planted it where it recieves similar sun conditions. It popped out 7 bullets this spring and is doing better than a similar sized Dreams Queen ( roughly the same size as last year) I agree that it is a thirsty plant, but may have more to do with its "Sieboldiana" heritage than the lack of chlorophyll. All those types for me anyways do better in a wetter area of the garden. In drier beds they shrink and the crown dissolves over a couple of seasons I also agree that once you plant them, moving them even once will kill them. Again this is what I've found with all the Sieboldiana types (I've killed color glory, thunderbolt, Frances Williams , 2 dream weavers and a Linda Sue) by repositioning them for aesthetic purposes......took me awhile but lesson learned. Lol. J....See MoreBen D (zone 7b)
