Assistance with decorating my bedroom plz!

I recently moved in to a new coop, and am trying to put the final touches on the bedroom. Could definitely use some help. Given that there are two built-ins that I don't plan on removing (may come back to this later, but not at the moment), I took out the existing closet to make a bit more room. I'm looking to get a new bedframe (I love my Purple mattress, but want a better bedframe), a new nightstand that goes with the color, and a bench or lounge chair to sit in. I love to read before bed, but I know that reading in bed is just making it harder for me to fall asleep.

Note that the closets were taken out, and gives me 116" until the pillar. If I keep my shoe rack and hamper where they are, I have 74" to play with. From the built in to the closet wall, I have 186", and from left to right I have 122".

For a bedframe, I kind of want a headboard, but I HATE headboards that are just straight, it makes it hard to sit up against for a while. I really like the idea of the Floyd frame, though it is lower to the ground and not sure how that would go in the room given window height (shouldn't be an issue for watching TV). An alternative is the Juniper. Once I figure out the bedframe and how much space I'll have on the wall, I can figure out artwork.

For rugs/etc., I'm thinking it makes more sense to get a runner next to the bed by where the nightstand is, and maybe something between the bed and the TV - given the current bed placement and built-ins not sure a full blown rug makes sense. For reading areas, I'm not really sure where I would put anything - for example, a bench next to the hamper might work, but those aren't usually comfortable, more for just putting on shoes.

Hi! If you post a layout of the room and dimensions, people will be able to make better suggestions. Can I ask what city you’re in?

Just edited with the dimensions. I am in NYC. I think I may pull the trigger on that Floyd bed, though I do worry the low profile just doesn't work with the window height and built-ins, but I like the look.

The bench/couch/lounging option, as well as rugs and nightstand is all that's left I think.

Val, I thought you'd like that bedroom. This friend is very talented in doing childrens room. She has a son too. Actually everything I've seen that she's done is magnificent. She really should blog, but she's quite busy redoing an old home they just purchased. Now let me tell you first, that I'm pretty much the last person that would normally tell you to do this as I happen to be a wood lover. Love the grain, the varying wood tones and just hate the thought of painting good wood. Deep breath. When looking at the furniture you have for your daughter I would think very hard about painting this before buying something else to paint. The chest of drawers would be so darling painted aqua with glass knobs and pulls to replace the current hardware. All you'd have to do was sand it or use a liquid sander to dull the finish, prime and paint. The bed could be painted the same way maybe using glass door knobs as finials on the bed posts. You can find them online if you search discount glass doorknobs for a very reasonable price. The desk would be harder to give the look you are going for since it's a bit MCM in styling so I'd replace that, but maybe look for a pretty dressing table like the one my friend used that could serve as a desk with the mirror down and later as a dressing table. And again, the bookcase you have now, more likely a combination of cabinet quality oak plywood and solid oak, with a little added crown molding along with a decorative base would look great painted too. Annaglypta wallpaper for the back of the shelves would add a cute touch too. Talk to hubby, tell him a wood grain nut that was given the salutation of "ack don't paint that!" by friends who know her well, thinks it's not a bad thing to paint these items. If you were going to keep them for use elsewhere in your home it would be a different story, but since you'll be selling them anyway to someone else that might paint them, why go to the trouble of buying something old from someone else just to paint it and then have to turn around and hopefully make what you spent on the old stuff in selling your stuff. I'd like a very pale aqua -- agree with Annie that the wall color can't be strong because the bedding is such a strong color. I'd try BM Colony Green (pale aqua, not really green). I think the hardest part is going to be finding a color light enough but not insipid/sickly pale. You're going to need to try several paint samples -- paint 2 coats of each sample paint on poster board and look at it in the room for at least 24 hours.

I'd start with finding pulls that you love, for these closets, maybe new or maybe vintage ones(there are plenty very interesting ones on Etsy, someties being sold in bulk or sets too), and switch the plain white one for the ones you find. (just make sure it's same size as not to drill the holes etc. If it's standard you'll have no problem. It will a) instantly change the look b) give you a lot of clues about what you love and what else you'd like to see in the room and it can be a really cheap change as well before you start repainting etc I agree that throws and pillows will make a huge difference, toward your preffered style, in an instant. So would be very close to changing hardware, on my list..you can look for them simultaneously..:) also nothing wrong in buying art you love the moment you see it, if affordable of course. Shouldn't be tied to whether your rooms are finished or empty or half the way. If you see it-buy it. Will inform you a lot as well.

Well, there's always a door mural if you want to have some fun. There's another "door" thread going on here. Someone posted this. There are hundreds of them out there....something for everyone! Certainly you have more options with the queen....you're smart to be getting this down on paper. No, you won't have a lot of room on one side but ??? it's all priorities. We had one bedroom that was only 10' wide with a queen and nightstands. We didn't have to get to the bathroom that way but we did to access a closet next to the bed....about 2'.5" on each side to the walls.....close. A lot of people wouldn't want that but we were cool with it.... The family that bought the house from us decided to keep their king bed (he's 6'6") They must be turning sideways to squeeze by that bed! There's no right or wrong here. You have a couple of options and it's just a matter of your preferences.

How funny I was just in NY helping my son with his new apt....

Get a full rug, the shag would look fine. Decide on the rug after you buy a duvet cover, a matching blanket, & sheet set. Crate and Barrel has nice bed linens (I noticed you liked their brand). IMO you need to have drawers in your night stands..... Buy those once you have a head board....... Love the chair, but it does seem a little over the top?! I did not see the bed frame you are referring to...

Just found your bedframe...love it. Once you decide on the finish, then get you night stands, then get your bedlinens , then a rug. Anyway that's how I would proceed. Good luck

I have a duvet that I really like, it's a kind of pale blue from Casper, though it's so hot I've been sleeping with just the lighter coverlet and a weighted blanket.

This is the bedframe I am debating getting. It is very low profile, about 7.5", so with my mattress total height is about 16-17" total. The TV is set 35" above the floor, and the windows are 32" above floor.

The chair definitely is over the top - trying to think of whether I should have a bench/small couch with a foot rest just to neatly fit into that alcove, or a chair a bit closer to the bed that can recline and watch the TV.

I'm leaning towards the birch given the dark blue accent wall, though tbh I do like the walnut a bit more.

Actually in looking through all your nightstand options with the Floyd and Jupiter beds. I would suggest; and did to my kid to get matching bed and stands.....because of this I would suggest the Juniper with the 2 night stands. I think a 8x10 rug would work, and a white shag would be ok depending on how it"ll look with your cabinetry. a dark white next to a bright white will look dirty. ( Course this is only an observation only a mom would make)!

What type of nightstand would work well for this? I'm thinking the ones I listed may be a bit too big. Given that the bed won't be centered in the room I think having just the one nightstand next to the bed would work so it won't get in the way of the built-in cabinet.

I like the idea of a shag rug, thought good call on making sure it doesn't appear dirty.

I know Floyd has their own nightstand, but it's a bit...eh? I do like walnut more 100%, though worried about how dark it is. I think I need one that has a drawer, given the knicknacks I have in there, though it may be time for a spring cleaning.
