Our Lowes kitchen + need help w/ lighting ideas
Comments (12)Hi maybeiloveyou, I didn't answer your question. My initial response would have been to install bronze light fixtures. However, since you have the stainless hardware, I'd probably stick with a stainless look light fixture. I'm also looking at the Shenandoah cabinets. Depending on the layout I choose I'll have between 12 and 14 cabinets total. I chose the Mission cabinets in Cherry Bordeaux and that quote was just under (a few dollars) $8,000. Maybe I'm being "hosed" by my KD? Did you guys go with the all plywood sides upgrade? Do you have oven cabinets or pantry cabinets? I'm just trying to figure out why my quote is so high. Maybe I should visit another Lowes for a price comparison....See MoreNeed help with exterior elevation of our modern home
Comments (50)The formal living room will not be used very often. I'd like to have it a bit separate from the rest of the business of the house for a few reasons: 1-my husband sometimes has informal board meetings for non-profit organizations at the house. 2-my MIL stays with us for around 6-7 months every year and it's a nice place for her to sit and have tea with her friends 3-dads usually retreat to the formal living during gatherings when they want to have their serious discussions (ie: sports, politics etc...) The dining room is used mostly for: 1-older kids HW 2-projects 3-formal dinner parties So I don't really mind if these 2 areas aren't well-integrated with the rest of the house. The major bustling will be from the garage to family room, kitchen, game room, stairs and bedrooms. I also wanted the kitchen to be in the corner of the house so that I could open windows and air out after cooking. Also, we have a 15' easement in our backyard so we needed to pull the pool into the building line so that we could build a pool enclosure around it. My 4 daughters will have the 2 bedrooms to the left of the house and my 3 sons will have the 2 bedrooms at the center front of the house, and our master bedroom tucked away in the corner back. So this is how the floor plan played out keeping all those factors in mind....See MoreNeed help finishing our kitchen!
Comments (34)Thank you all for your responses. I'll try my best to reply: jh - I really like your suggestions of grey or green as the color for the cabinets in the bathroom. We will have to look into this. I'll try to post a picture of the white/grey speckle finish so that you guys can get an idea of what it looks like In regard to the backsplash, I appreciate all the recommendations for the special patterned backsplash. Unfortunately, we don't have a very high budget and are trying to get several things done in a certain time frame. I can see how the tile pattern backsplash would look good and help with the black/white combo, but we just can't swing another big change like that. We'll live with it for now. Regarding the transition to the living room: The living room is a much warmer space with beige carpet, same almond-ish paint, with warm lights. Hopefully by going with white in the kitchen, and allowing some of that warm light to shine on some of the white cabinets, it will be a much more gradual transition. Hopefully, we can find that LVP plank that has both the warm and cool tones in there to match the warm living space. Everyone is posting beautiful pictures here. My wife's fear though, is that our kitchen/bathroom is not nearly as fancy looking as what you guys are posting. We won't have the fancy trim or molding around the cabinets. It'll appear much more basic. Hopefully we can dress it up a little by adding the hardware. Thanks everyone!...See MoreMid Century Modern Kitchen Reno Ideas - Help with cabinet color
Comments (20)I love the look of your kitchen, especially the brick wall. (I'd streamline the decor on those shelves and probably look for a vintage metal art piece or sunburst clock for that wall.) My main advice though has to do with the flooring. Slate looks great but I wouldn't replace wood or vinyl for it. Stone and tile are terribly hard on the joints. I really regret my tile kitchen floors. YMMV but thought I'd mention it. Hope you'll post your changes. It's going to look great!...See MoreFori
