I was searching the archives because am interested in learning more about two stores that I recently learned about, Bo Concepts and Bova Furniture. I am somwehat familiar with a number of the stores in previous posts, but I would really appreciate some insight from others more familiar with these stores about quality. In particular, how do Bo Concepts and Bova compare to West Elm (which I would say is lower quality overall) vs. Crate and Barrell, Storehouse (now closed) and Scan Furniture, all of which IMO have a range from low to mid-level quality? I'm looking for pieces for my living room and dining room, so they won't be heavily used, but I don't want really low quality furniture either. Brands that I have bought or have considered for my adjacent family/room kitchen or considered for my LR/DR include: Johnston Casuals, Clayton Marcus, Sam Moore, Precedent, Shermag, and Excelsior Designs. Look at Room and Board as well, for wood furniture. And check Mitchell Gold: http://www.mgbwhome.com Yes, a designer will open the doors to many more options. They do not necessarily mark prices up; they get a discount and will charge you retail. I went this route when I bought my apartment 12 years ago. You will get access to the designer-only showrooms if you live near those (D&D Building in New York, etc).

The following have solid reputations for quality and lasting craftsmanship (eight way hand tied, kiln dried hardwood frames, corner blocks, glued and doweled, etc.) Wesley Hall Taylor King Jessica Charles Hancock & Moore Hickory Chair Hickory White Lee Industries, which has a decent reputation, has some pieces available at Crate and Barrel. I've also heard good things about Stickley. Lexington could also be a contender. Some places to be careful of due to questionable construction/quality are West Elm, Pottery Barn, and Restoration Hardware. I do not have this product, but I bought a kitchen table that was in the Hooker brands. Quality was terrible after using about once a month the table top started showing a lot of wear and where the side and top of table meet it was peeling off. i maybe wash table once a week with damp cloth. I contact customer service and they said nothing can be done. the quality was so awful I could never purchase from this company again.
