Storms moving into the extended OKC area
Comments (1)Hey Paula, It's just moving in on us now, at nearly 11:30. I hope the wind and hail isn't as extreme as it was this afternoon. Everything took a terrific pounding, and the damaged front section of our poor barn is about to collapse. It picked up a big 14" planter tub and tossed it across the yard, as well as flipping some construction material around like toothpicks. My big redwood bird feeder went flying out into the pasture, but seems to have somehow survived. I think we can patch the tear in the swimming pool rim where the hail punched a big hole, and so far the pool is still holding the water. So far, so good. Right? I sure hope some of the rest of you get the rain and no damage to go with it. Pat...See MoreBeen busy preparing for spring
Comments (17)I find that after I do cuttings the plant the cuttings come from always put out offshoots that like to break off but the new shoot do just fine. Is there anyway to improve on the old stock so they have better new shoots? So far I have better plants from the new shoots than the parent plant. Last year I had a few break off from the parent plant which made great new plants which flowered better than the parent plant. Does anyone know how long a cutting can be dormant before it needs to be potted up? I found my friends do not mind that they break off as now they have starts also. I have been giving the ones that bread off as I do not have that much room anyway. My first plant lived through the winter cold we had a couple years ago I just brought in at night and it did fine after it lost all of its leaves. The same can be done with cuttings if the main plant is too large plus it provides a lot more new plant at the same time making the parent plant once it is pruned back easier to protect from the cold snaps we have....See MoreBeen busy! Stopping in to say hi. What's new with you?
Comments (4)Good to hear from you Maryliz....wow you have been busy...I took a fabric dying class and it was a lot of fun...not something I want to do much of in my house. I am going to visit a lady for a class on painting on fabric and then you put it in the sun to set the colors...maybe then I can decide what I want to invest my money in, paint or dyes. Wonderful you are moving your sewing out of the basement to your very own space....you will love it...don't forget to include good lighting in your new room...aren't hubbys wonderful when it comes to our hobby. This summer is pretty quiet for us...last year we painted the house, garage, fences...15 gal. of paint and my shoulder still complains. We also had quite a bit of company and I did get to the Moose Jaw Quilt Show in April...so I guess I will enjoy seeing pictures and writeups on trips others take this year. I have dragged out a quilt that I started quilting in 2003 by machine....gave up because it was too heavy....couldn't get the stitching out so now I am hand quilting what is left. This was a block exchange my guild did so I treasure it. Looking back I sure have learned a lot...my borders are terrible...I did diamonds on the sides and they didn't work out even...I am chuckling as it is almost ugly. Keep us posted on your projects and pics and have fun with that new sewing studo. Jean...See MoreThings I wish I'd done before the storm
Comments (9)Hm, we got food in, checked the pumps and generator. Filled the vehicles with gas, charged the phones.... not sure there's really anything at all left to do. Well, except push my DD out the door. She turned up shortly after lunch, and has been hanging out all afternoon--she and a friend are going out for dinner, but friend is doing wash, showering, drying her hair (???????) And I'm getting HUNGRY--but don't want to eat till dd is on her way. Well, guess I might wish that we'd sold this house--I'm here, keeping an eye on things, while DH is spending the night at the country house, to make sure that's okay....See Morestupidlazydog CT zone 5b/6a
