Slip covered vs. upholstered sofa?
Comments (5)I have been looking at the Lee sofas. Everyone on this forum seem very happy with them. They seem very comfortable and the slip covers fit very well. I called Lee and the fabrics that I have chosen were laundered before being made into the slipcovers and are machine washable, but not all fabrics that they have are. I think durability varies with how often they are laundered and if they are washed properly. Lighter colors would be more suseptible to stains, especially if cotton. Any slipcovers bought from a source other than the manufacturer are not going to fit as well. Crate and Barrel carries the lower end of Lee sofas the springs are not the 8 way hand tied but a wire type support. They have lots of the fabrics if you have trouble finding a Lee dealer. I am ordering two different slipcovers. Lee sofas are archived so that you can order another slipcover later if necessary. The slipcover does have a more slouchy look but that is part of its look. I am probably going to buy on line as the pricing is so much better than what I can do locally. I would rather buy locally but cannot leave that much money on the table. I wonder who makes the sofas for World Market. They have a 40% coupon in the store now not sure if it is good on the sofa. I had three little boys, twins and another one 18 months older, now grown, and they are alot of fun. I never had slip covers when they were little, but had a green machine with upholstery attachment. It is amazing what that could clean up! Now I am looking at the possibility of Grandchildren! You might also be interested in something in Krypton fabric! There was a thread on that earlier I think!...See MoreWhat color rug and sofa for my living room?
Comments (6)Beautiful room. I can see many colors doing great here. Tan, sand, camel, red, pale pink, emerald, royal blue, aubergine, butter yellow, light gray.. Black too-if you prefer something leggy and visually light. I agree-it'd be easier to tie the choice of the sofa with your other color choices, as in a rug you love. Or, if not much there yet-pick the sofa in the color that speaks to you the most. And go from there. That's potentially-less successful way, but that's what I did when I did not know better, and also didn't have what to sit on:) and I was pretty happy with the results. (truth to be told-still can't find this rug..)) Colorful sofas are much easier to work into the different color schemes, than it seems. Even when you repaint in, say, several years-most of the colors will still work. Just make sure you really love that color....See MoreLiving room help! What kind of rug to use in my living room?
Comments (3)What are the big red scratch-outs? Furniture you aren't keeping? First step is the couch, second is the rug and third is the paint. Paint color should be based on fabrics and textiles (seating and rug) in the room. It can be custom blended, but the furniture is set in stone. When you shop for the rug, it should be 2-4 feet wider than the sofa. Slip it under the front 1/3 of the sofa and have it extend past the ends by 1-2 feet. You can use painter's tape on the floor to figure out the best size for your sofa and room. I'd replace the dining rug too, so the two are coordinated. In addition, push your TV credenza against the wall and put the TV on a swivel base to adjust for viewing....See MoreWhat colour of rug & drapery would make my living room pop! Ple
Comments (28)I would work with the colors from the chair fabric. It and the pillows have some teal or aqua so look for things in those watery colors but darker or brighter. You also can rotate other colors on pillow covers. I switch mine seasonally to brighten our brown leather sofas. With cool greys and teals you could add warmth with accents of yellow or coral. Pick colors that you love. Maybe start with a large colorful canvas for the wall and use colors from it. You could even paint your own abstract. Stack a couple books under your lamps if you need them taller. Buy used books with colorful covers or recover them in paper to match your color scheme. Before investing in big items like rugs and drapes, try a few little colorful items like a throw to see what colors you like. Take your time to collect things that speak to you not just the latest trend....See MoreMaureen
