Can I Put Dining Room & Living Room Receptacles on Same Circuit?
Comments (5)Of course you can put dining room and living room receptacles on the same circuit. Terribletom your answer is completely wrong. Dining room receptacles must be on a 20A small appliance circuit, and SA circuits can NOT supply anything in the living room. Code requires 2 or more SA circuits, and the fact that there are already 2 SA circuits in the kitchen doesn't change the fact that the 20A circuit supplying dining room receptacles is also to be considered a SA circuit. The linkage between dining room and kitchen receptacles is more of an exception than a rule. "Linkage"??? This is jibberish. Code consists of rules and exceptions, but not of some middle-ground mush. You should either read the code before answering, or admit you're making it up as you go along....See MoreWhere would you put the dining room and living room?
Comments (20)That's a plus! Close up the pass through and door and make a high opening through that wall. Joanna Gaines does that a lot so the support is not lost but you get the feeling of openness. She'll take a regular 72" opening and widen it to 84 or 96 and open it to the ceiling. Remarkable difference, but if it is load bearing, you may have to insert some support in the wall above it which is more expensive to do. Remember, when you open this wall, guests will step through your front door and see your kitchen and all the mess. Something to consider. You might appreciate closing the current door and pass through and putting a 48" wide opening at the thermostat end of that wall for access without the direct view from the entrance into the kitchen. With the other wall closed, you might find room for a tiny breakfast table and chairs or for a coffee bar....See MoreDo I need to coordinate rugs for my living room and entryway?

Comments (25)Sounds like a fireplace re-do might be a longer-term fix. In the meantime, I'd paint the mantle a dark brown, a similar colour to your end tables. It's not trim and shouldn't be white. It pops out too much in the white colour. Another idea that doesn't involve any ripping-out is to go right over the existing mantle using a mantle slipcover in wood. Here's one of many how-to's on the internet. If you stained your brick as well, you could have a whole new look. https://www.fwmadebycarli.com/2011/01/making-of-slip-covered-mantel.html...See Moreelcieg
