Comments (9)Can you put the chaise part up against the wall? It would open up the sitting area to the rest of the space. You could also add a rug for some texture and warmth ... the room is probably a bit loud too, with tile floors and empty walls....See Morehow can I make this dining room more inviting?
Comments (91)Read through all the posts and not wild about the size of the rug you bought. I liked the first one suggested with the blues, look for something similar. Here is my possibly radical suggestion. That corner unit draws your eye away from everything. Consider taking the door off, use spackle and touch up paint to hide the hinge holes. Then either DIY or hire someone to come in and cut off that curved top. It would be awesome if that curved top was act nailed on and easier to remove. then touch up paint anything that needs it. If you must need a door, take it to see if you can get the panes removed and a whole piece of glass replaced. And lastly, when you decided on the rug and curtains, paint the inside of the corner unit walls one of the accent color. or the same as the chest. Leave the outside of it the current color. I think the changes to that built in corner unit could go a long way with changing the look in the room. And for sure a different light fixture!...See MoreHelp.... Comments (108)Roopa if you bought that oriental rug with the bright red and the aqua background, I would go with a pale aqua or pale blue wall. Off white, pale yellow or cream works very well too. It's the daytime light with all the beautiful windows you have to feel airy during the day and a pleasing wall color to look at night and enjoy, not overpowering!...See MorePlease help me figure out how to make this living room flow!
Comments (16)Some thoughts: --Move sofa to face fireplace to create a walkway into the home. Place sofa far enough back so you don't have to crane your neck to watch TV placed over fireplace. (I rarely suggest that, but that could solve your entryway problem.) --Bring angled chairs in closer to sofa to create conversational grouping with front feet of all pieces on the rug. To make entryway more functional, place a narrow sofa table/console behind sofa. --Get sturdy nesting coffee tables that can be used as side table next to sofa. Pull out when guests come. --LooK for baskets for bottom two shelves of your Dad's bookcase and put kids' toys there. --Put your painting above your blue console....See Moreemilyam819
