You just need to simplify so it feels more calming. I'd remove the clock and all the art on the tv wall. Then add one or two art peices back just to the left side of the tv, which will be balanced by the lamp on the right. Pull the green/gray chair a little further out of the corner and remove the pillow. I'd use a cream colored textured rug instead of the busy pattern you have. Do you use or need the ceiling fan? A semi flush mount fixture would look better.

I’d feel kind of weird sitting on the couch not facing the front door/stairs traffic. Have you tried the couch on the window wall?

I can see why it makes you stressed. By the time you carve out the necessary traffic path to the dining room, you don't have much space to work with.

I'd probably start by taking everything off the walls and being very judicious with what I put back.

I love the way tripod lamps work, but because of the leg spread at the base they take up more space than you would think (and more than other floor lamp alternatives).

I'm with Emilyam on the psychological discomfort of having my back to the door. It seems like TV viewing is an important function; is there any way to move the TV, against the stairs or where the aquarium is?

The clock says, "Don't relax; your on the clock here!" Try removing that and anything small enough to hold in both hands. That should reduce the cluttered feeling. You do need a larger, plain rug and a plain throw. Patterns are exciting, not relaxing.. Don't have any art hanging so its above door or window frames; that makes the room feel precariously unbalanced, so some people will automatically feel jittery in that environment. I would remove all the sunburst mirrors, and the yellow lamp. The mirrors feel prickly, not soothing, and the lamp color and style is jarring with the rest of your things. If you must have a fan, upgrade the style of it but have no light kit with it. Get a second matching floor lamp and flank the TV area with those. Make sure your rug is large enough for the furniture to be anchored on it.

I would get one curtain rod that covers both windows and extends about 10 inches betond the window. New curtains with a pattern that has cream maybe blue or green and the sofa colour. Large cream rug with a open pattern or texture pattern.

Place the sofa on the window wall therby opening up the room, move the chairs across from the sofa. Pillows with texture for chairs and sofa and textured throw. Remove the art behind the tv and place flanking the tv., perhaps get riid of the tv and stand and it could be another area to put the sofa?

Less is more in this case. I do agree with everyone that mentions to take all your accessories out of the room and off the walls. Leave only the tv, sofa. Start to add back slowly and minimal. Not every spot of your living room needs to have an accessory. If you love patterns, keep them tone on tone.

I don't think you need anything different unless you want something different, I think all this room needs is what has been mentioned, decluttering. I would also take down the clock, the starburst mirrors and the blue vase in one of the corners and some of the smaller art on the tv wall. Or just take it all down and add back a piece at a time. Give it some breathing room, you don't want something hanging on every wall. Other than that I think it looks cozy and inviting.

I’m new to design but what I like to do is take everything off the walls in the room I’m working on. Take everything minor out. All clutter until your left with just furniture. That way you can focus on how to change the design vs working around clutter which makes for getting upset>overwhelmed>unmotivated :(

--Paint living and dining rooms a warm white so they all seem to be one space. (I can't tell what color walls are. Next time, show well lit rooms in daylight.)

----Long, low white shelf/cabinet across the entire TV wall with just TV above since it's so large. This will streamline the room tremendously. No art around TV since screen. Relocate favorite art pieces--not decor items like mirrors or clock--to a gallery wall in dining room--best art works only. Lose the big blue bottle and other "stuff" on the floor. The room needs something call "negative space," open areas that add airiness to a room. It takes awhile to get used to negative space, but it feels calming after a while.

--Put smaller round dining room mirror by front door with a shelf there for keys, etc. Having a funcitonal place for practical items is destressing.
