Paint Design Dilemma Kitchens

Need color help with Black Island... Cabinet & walls.

Hi all.

I have a new black island being installed. I'm looking for a bold color to paint the existing perimeter cabinets. Was leaning towards a blue/grey, but open to other design ideas. Please help!!

Also need some sort of palette for walls and coffer ceiling.

Floor is 'Leisure Oak' by CoreTec (attched).

Granite is 'white moon' (attached).

Here are some nice looks for a basement kitchen with dark base island. You could add any accent colors with either of these. Start with the “end” in mind to stay on track.

It is in the middle of the reno. Already demo'd.

So I'm basically starting from scratch. Only have Black Island, floor & counter picked out, but not installed yet.

So is it the black island you don't want, the dark countertop, or both? I wouldn't want the island the same as the window trim...Creamy would be better. If you go with black island, I saw a kitchen once with black cabinets and a gorgeous creamy gold colored counter (it was actually a kind of marble, but the right granite could do the same) French doors are pretty, but only if you're not going to go in and out of that room all the time, and only if you have room for the door swing. Will you continue the same flooring as the sun room in the kitchen, or switch?

People thought I was crazy when I said I was going to paint our fp brick wall in our FR black. I am the least decisive person around, but I KNEW it just had to be black, and that it would look good. And you know what? We think it looks terrific, and all the naysayers really like it, too! Sometimes you have to go with your gut. That said, realize that black will show dust, much more so than other stain colors. Our MB vanity is black and I could wipe it down daily. Or more often than that. Our hall bath vanity, same style/size, but Bordeaux stain, shows nothing.

I'm biased because I just finished painting my kitchen and hall this color but ... Eider white? It is a little warmer but also so pale you almost think it's white until you see it against white trim and ceiling. It does not read as beige or yellow at all to me. As to the cabinet color ... it all depends on your budget and if you like any of the woods that are available. I chose a stained wood because I like wood grain and wanted something super durable against dings and dents. Maybe see if they have any wood cabinets that are not overly red or warm, it looks like you really like gray so I'm guessing you like cool colors?

IMO no choices should be amde until you have all choices figured out. I certainly would not do gray unless ther eis a blue gray in the counter . Why not just white for the perimeter and let the island be the star/

I totally agree, but this was a flood recovery that wiped out my floors and island. So the island was purchased along with other things that were ruined in a different room.

It is the basement kitchen, and while it is a full sized kitchen basement that we mostly use for entertaining, I was looking for a pop of color or a bold color to be fun. My original plan was white, but now that it's getting closer to install date for island and floors, I thought I'd have fun with color.

Everything else is a blank slate (color-wise).

Sooo, no blue?

Sorry your basement flooded! Lucky for you it is your secondary kitchen. Kind of agree with the pro that white would be the best choice. However, if you're really interested in blue, it's your room, so get samples of the blues the cabinet manufacturer offers and look at them with the other products you've selected on site if possible so you're looking at everything together under the lighting that will be there when everything is installed. There are a million shades of blue, so maybe you will find one that works. Also consider using paint, art or other accessories for your color pop.

A dark Gray might be a better color for your island base. Depends on flooring.

The black island is already ordered months ago. Going to be installed next month.

Not sure which blue will look good with a black island and your countertop. Maybe a taupe?

Sorry, I misread your point. So with black island and black and white countertop you can go in many directions. I would go bold blue.

I would use SW Pure White with either red or blue. Clean and bright.
