Can anyone help on how to start and collect ginger from seed?

I know that ginger is normally grown from rhizomes that are divided. However, I have a white ginger (the one that is strongly scented) that seems to be developing a seed head after it bloomed. This is the first year that this plant has bloomed for me so I do not know what to expect. I have red plume ginger that will actually develop a new plant where it had bloomed. Maybe the white ginger will do the same and I can plant it.

How do people develop new gingers I would think at some point you would need to get seed, because it you cut a rhizome or get a baby plant off an existing plant it would be the same identical plant?

Can anybody shed any light.

Thanks

Sharon
