Oh the horrors! I still remember in 4th grade I had a class with a teacher who was known for being mean. She always struck terror in my heart. Well, we were supposed to have our school book covered by the next day, and I completely forgot and had left it at school. I was in tears! So my folks gave me a large brown paper bag cut open and showed me how to fold it to cover it without tape. I did that as soon as I got to class. Of course only about half the class had their book covered. Wouldn't you know it, she came over to my desk and picked up my well-covered book to show the class how it should be done!! Phew!! Permanent record saved!!

When I was in grade school, sometimes my Mom would wrap my lunch sandwich in newspaper. I was teased once.

Makes me sad now days to think of this and other things my Mom did for us, "making do" when we had nothing.

I used to love making book covers from grocery bags. I wrote and drew all over them. The inside flap had more secretive messages like the name of my latest crush or a list of my best friends. . Schoolhouse, my lunch sandwiches were wrapped in wax paper .
