Delivery - Bookcase won't fit thru the door
Comments (19)Wow, that Harry Lipsky site is a great reference tool! Thanks, yogacat, for posting that link. Massagegirl, do you have a sofa in your apartment? That bookcase is is 86" tall. A lot of sofas are wider than that, and deeper. And yet they can fit through dooways that are 30 or 33 inches wide. You might have to take off both the outer door and the door to your apartment, but there should be a way to get that bookcase in. I'm reminded of one apartment I had where the neighbors across the hall were moving out on the day I was moving in. They had to ask me to open my apartment door so that they could move their sofa out--they had to bring one end of the sofa into my apartment in order to angle it correctly to get down the stairs--there was only a short, narrow landing separating the two apartment doors. I was pretty impressed with how a bunch of guys helping out a friend were able to figure out the solution to the problem. Comments (16)I definitely waffled over whether to have the TV over the fireplace. I had seriously planned on doing a TV to one side or the other, sitting in (on?) the bookcase at a lower level, but then I feel like only half the seating in the room will have any decent view of the TV (which is worse than looking up at the TV in my opinion). This is going to be a vacation/beach house. Total room dimensions are 18x23. "Usable" portion of that will actually be more like 18'x18' - I want plenty of room to walk behind furniture to get outside (12' glass slider will be on the "right hand"/23' wall as you are looking at the fireplace. Entire thing is open to the kitchen/dining area, which is to the "left" as you are looking at the fireplace. I have also waffled over whether anyone will "use" the built in window seats. Its hard to say! I do want some shelving for display - but not a ton. I admit I really am not a person who likes to have a lot of "stuff" just sitting around, but I am certainly a lover of books. You have all given me some really important things to consider as I try to figure this out and I am so grateful!...See MoreNeed bookcase with Armoire Desk . What works?
Comments (12)Thanks Flo...see you're a night owl also! The room is 12'x12'. The desk wall is 8'H x 10.75 wide. North. Ceiling is lath and beams painted same color as wall. Will add photos of the other three walls. Couch facing east with windows, west facing T.V. closet and entry to room, south two windows and door to deck. Sooo, the only wall for the desk is the north wall. I like Doherty Penthouse renovation photo...bookcases to ceiling painted same color as wall. these are pretty narrow so what dimensions would we want to use. Carn have bookcases made with cupboard at bottom. Can paint or stain. maybe put speakers on bottom shelf. Also like the "home office". we can have bookcase made as cupboard wall to wall with glass doors. Like because it can be dusty. The shelf at the ceiling, impractical ...books get dusty and not very accessible. You inspire me! have an opinion re. stain or paint?...See MoreCould a bookcase fit here? Update
Comments (20)It doesn't appear that there is a lot of room for turning a long table or bench, etc. to remove it from behind the sofa on the corner side so getting to all of it might be a challenge. Any storage piece put behind the sofa might be better suited if it didn't need to be removed to access what's in it. I do like the little cube ottomans, Beth H. is suggesting. Finding a corner where they'd fit if you didn't want to use them as a footrest would be a lot easier than finding a place for a larger piece -- any kind of larger storage piece -- that you might want/need to be able to move about to access what's in it. With a reversible top, the cube ottoman could even be plant stands. You wouldn't even need the table that fits between four of them with the + shaped legs -- a sanded painted piece of plywood or a Carrom board [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carrom] could turn several ottoman into a larger table for monopoly, jig saw puzzles, board games, hobbies -- versatility -- to keep children occupied.
