I've grown cannas for decades, and actually sell over 800 rhizomes to a local nursery each year. I probably have 2500 to 3000 rhizomes at the end of each summer that I dig and store in the basement. I've tried several methods, but my best success is to dig them in the Fall (I do not clean them) and stick them in cheap black plastic garbage bags with peat moss that are inside some wax covered produce boxes I get for free from the local grocery store. I sprinkle a little peat moss over the bulbs several times as I fill the bags. This seems to work best. The peat moss absorbs any excess moisture, and keeps the rhizomes from drying out. "heck Hubby talked to a guy we know about green beans.. he said he did not blanched just washed and dried and sealed packages....and Froze did dehydrate other veggies back in 2011 but no greenbeans... I bought some spanish sounding or french ..while back from a salvage store ..It looked to be like the name had "green" In it like "verde" I think verde means "green " from high school days... But yall know I tried planting some of my own saved "cherokee" beans before and nothing happened... they would have been organic ,too. I even gave away some Chinese long bean pods.. I wish that person would have gotten back to me and let me know what happened.. I grew Chinese long beans in my front yard back in 2011 they did fantastic...even canned some Here in this old money pit acreage,have not tried them yet. Did so good with the Ky wonder and some bush varities.... Hubby got "greenbeaned out".. not me. ate them steamed every nite.now if I could do better on the onions.... Boy I so miss my own Organically grown green beans. Hope God Blesses Us again this year... better get off and check my chickens and Hubby out in this blankey blank snow..... Happy Gardening yall

It looks quite sturdy and healthy (mine was more etiolated). It is tall, so if you want shorter plant, you could take off 1 or 2 leaves. It should have clean cut, so if frayed from being broken, recut with sharp blade. You may have to take off lowest leaf. I would let it callus for some time: just leave on a paper towel or tray out of sunlight for a while, until cut end scab/calluses over. It will likely start growing little 'nubs' - see this thread. Very first photo is of same aloe that I decapitated since it was too tall. It was left out of soil, in bright but not hot & sunny spot, for over a month. After potting it in very gritty mix, I didn't water until around Aug 1 = first time; so it was left dry for over 2mo I the pot. Here it is now:It was supported with those 3 rocks. Do not dig to see if there are roots, that will just disturb it. After at least a month of potting up, I just touched it gently and felt it still bit 'loose' - meaning the roots have not anchored plant. After another mo it felt much more stable. I can take the rocks out now since there is no need for support (will leave them since I don't mind the look :)

If it's even available in a qt. anymore. Many companies have stopped making qts. The added inventory level is very burdensome for stores to carry for such an infrequent sale. Faron
