Zone 8b where? If you're comfortable being a bit more specific, it will help people recommend the roses that do well in your general area and also warn you against ones that won't like your climate.

If fragrance doesn’t matter I highly rwcommend Quicksilver. It’s the most vigorous climber I have and when the dogs have damaged a cane and i jyst stuck it in the ground it rooted easily.

I would take James Galway off since there's a long pause in between the 1st and 2nd flush. It needs tons of rain to produce the 2nd flush, best in partial shade. I consider James Galway as mainly spring flush, and a much smaller amount in 2nd flush and 3rd flush.

I only grow two on your list: Eden and Yves Piaget, and I love both. Eden is (to me) the perfect climber b/c it sort of grows like a big shrub and doesn't get ultra-tall. I get 4-5 bloom cycles from it per year without deadheading, and I've had it for ~20 years. And it's growing on the north side of a 6 foot tall fence, so it gets no sun in the winter.

Yves Piaget has a weird, awkward growth habit (as Lilyfinch noted), but its blooms totally make up for it. Gorgeous, very fragrant. I have three of them.

Lilyfinch, I totally forgot about Silver Linings and it glorious color. Maybe I will teace my dead Pope John Paul with SL. How tall will it get ?

I took James Galway off and changed to gertrude jekyll. Is this a good choice? I am in Northern California.

From StrawChicago: I saw Gertrude Jekyll with more blooms than leaves (2.5' tall) at Chicago Botanical Garden, they have loamy alkaline soil. I could not detect any scent, and Khalid in Pakistan with alkaline sandy soil stated that its scent is unstable.

I grow Comte de Chambord (parent of Gertrude Jekyll). It blooms well in my alkaline clay and best with lots of acidic rain. Comte de Chambord repeats faster than James Galway.

I've had Gertrude in the ground in the back yard for ~20 years. My soil is alkaline clay-ish. She's a once-bloomer, always with a great fragrance. I normally prune her back to about 2 feet in January, but last year, I neglected pruning that patch completely (my fault), and while she bloomed in the spring, it wasn't nearly as good as her normal spring bloom.

mizu717 f I always check helpmefind.com too...there aren't that many of us from the PNW and England type climate, but enough if you look up each rose, others comment about them and rate them.
